Now that the unsafe act in NY made me dissipate my non-compliance lowers, I miss my AR. Have been looking at the ARES Lower (since they now sell just a lower) to put under my RRA Upper. Like this one:

Any ARES owners out there? What is your opinion on the rifle. The RRA Upper is the most accurate I have ever shot. I am sure there are better, but none that have come across my limited skills. Will the ARES match nicely? Thanks.

Bought one a while back

All I needed was the lower as I had a "complaint" upper to add to it.

Shoots well and is not as "scary" to the ninny's as the full blown M-4's are [ thanks to the press ].

I hunted woodchucks for well over THIRTY YEARS with an AR of one form or another --- until the "safe act".

I am hoping they come out with a .308 / 7.62 X 51 in the same configuration.

Only have about 100 rounds through the ARES,so far so good.

I have kept my Saiga Sporter carbine in it's original imported stock just for that reason. Although I don't expect Kansas to pass it's version a "safe act" I do not trust Congress from doing the same.

You might look around for a SAIGA Sporter Carbine.

So how does it work? Without the traditional buffer tube to allow for bolt reciprocation, I can't see how it'd fit/use a standard upper....

unfortunately im stuck in NY state for at least another few months up to a year.. so my AKs, sadly, are in storage in another state.. i was considering getting the saiga trigger group and stock to build up an AK from a parts kit to be compliant in a saiga manner

about the SCR.. how is that thing compatible with conventional AR-15 uppers when theres no buffer tube?

there are stocks to make normal AR-15 lowers NY compliant, and you can make it so just by removing the pistol grip

ok, i found more information and it works exactly as i suspected.. the tail section of the AR-15 bolt carrier is removed (the area behind the firing pin) and in its place is a hinged component that pushed into the buffer assembly in the stock (like an FAL)

So a normal upper will work so long as you replace the carrier with a different one? That's interesting.

Got a Siaga. Thanks for the comments. I heard they shoot a little different or maybe handle differently when firing?

thats what it looks like, new lower and bolt carrier, the rest is all AR-15, bolts, barrels, handguards, etc

Guess I am the only one ?

Am I the only one that reads prior posts BEFORE posting ?.

I stated that my M-4 UPPER fit the ARES ,so I only needed a lower for the ARES !.

And yes there is a 'buffer' that fits in the conventional stock, and seems to work just fine.

I see that Saiga's in at least 3 calibers [ 5.56 x 45 , 5.45 X 39 , 7.62 X 39 ] are legal IF they have the "conventional" stock that most see as a sporting / hunting rifle.

So,Saiga,Ares,M-1 Carbines,Ruger mini 14's,Ruger mini 30's = all legal in NYS and "complaint".

Meaning they can be bought over the counter at any gun shop,or gun show !.

I read it, but it didn't explain to me HOW it was possible.

So you provided the WHAT, and I subsequently asked for the HOW. And lo! justin22885 explained the HOW, and now we're all smarter.

Yay for THR! :)
