Hey everyone,

I bought a ATI SKS Dragunov stock today and I cant get it to fit on my yugo for the life of me. The trigger group is the only part that is giving me a hard time.

I warmed it up to room temperature to make sure it wasnt contracted and tight, I banged and pressed and manuevered and stretched, but I can not get the trigger group to lock in.

I made sure the safety is engaged as my manual says and I pressed down and forward like I do every time I took it apart from my wooden SKS stock.

Any advice?

Here's some advice. Sell it on Ebay and buy a Tapco T6 stock instead. To clean your SKS, you will now, with the dragunov, have to remove the stock every time. One thing I have found out about the SKS, it is not a rifle that was made to be modified.

You might have to dremel out the area around the spot where the spring clip comes up through the trigger group. Could be that it just won't press together enough to let the retention piece from clearing the hole. I had this happen with a wooden stock once.

I strongly preferred the Choate thumbhole type stock to the ATI, but even stopped using that after I had to take it apart for cleaning a few times.

Not to derail the thread but:

That's what I like to hear/read. I was trying to decide between the dragunov and the t6. I went with the t6, haven't gotten it yet because Santa ain't here yet, but I think it'll fit my needs. Anyone have any issues like the one above with installing the t6?

My SKS is an assembly of random parts and I was I was basically given the stock as part of the deal so I took hacksaw and mototool in hand and let the do-it-myself part of me loose ...

nice job

looks good and the knob removed is a great idea. I left my sk alone and just went for a stock extension, but I did help a friend put in his collapsible the other day. We STILL cannot seem to get the gas tube cover area to release and make room for the new plastic cover. We broke the wood to get it off. I know there is a little pin in there to knock out but we knocked and knocked and that dar n d thing won't budge.

HINT: get the sk with nogrenade launcher/heavy bolted bayo for quicker mod's:(

OOOh, how I would love a T6 stock, but I am in NJ and collapsible stocks on a semi auto are a no no.

Im starting to second guess this whole stock nonsense. I am able to field strip my sks with a wooden stock in seconds. Im not looking forward to banging around with that plastic stock every time I have to clean it.

Besides, my yugo looks better with the wood. The stock was 30 bucks so I said why not. Ill probably just modify it to fit a paintball gun or something and have more fun lol.

But thanks for all the info and advice.

One thing I have found out about the SKS, it is not a rifle that was made to be modified.

My thoughts exactly.

With even the Yugo's creeping toward the $200 mark on dealer shelves, it seems that a Romak or Saiga is the way to go if you want tacti-cool.

Is is legal to purchase an SKS and then replace the stock with one of those 'drop in stocks' that has a folding butt stock and pistol grip?

Its legal if you removed the Yugo's grenade launcher, bayonet and mount and grenade sight, or you replace enough parts with US made ones to have it class as a US made rifle (less than 10 parts game).

With getting the trigger group into the rifle you might just be having a problem with it being rather stiff. I have one SKS thats the only way to get it to lock into place is to use a vise to push it down so the clip goes in since I am not an mythological herculean figure.

What the others have said about shaping the stock also is good advice. Its all part and parcel of fitting a new stock. Especially true with the wider Yugo SKS.

Yes I much perfer the T6 stock to a Dragunov kind.

I have this problem everytime I switch to my ATI ultralight sidefolder stock. The trigger group doesn't want to lock in unless I take the palm of my hand and smack the trigger gaurd a few times and then it locks in. When I go back to the factory stock, it goes in with no problem.

I miss the days of the Choate Dragonov stocks. I used to have one on my old Norinco and they were the Shiznit. No mods required to fit. Unfortunately, they are non-existent nowadays. At-least I still have the cheek rest piece to it that was never fitted.

I really like D-nov style stocks on the AK as it adds just enough LOP to fit me. But the SKS, (Or at least my M59 Yugo,) is already at a comfy length. Since I now live in a free state, I will just get a Tromix Saiga for 7.62x39 with a pistol grip. If I was still in Cali, I would go for that D-nov style and take the bump out to make it breakdown ready.

I tried to make my SKS into an assault rifle... and nothing works. Just keep it the way it was intended is my advice.
