I Bought A Argentine Model 1891 That Was Set In A Modern Sport Stock. The Rear Sight Was Replaced By A More Modern One. I Got The Gun For $50.00. Shoots 2.5 Inch Groups Of 3 At 75 Yards. I Found All Parts Needed Except The Stock Itself. The Other Parts Were Only $55.00. Any Ideas About Where To Get A Stock? And Is $105.00 Plus The Cost Of The Stock Worth Restoring This Gun. Serial # Is W6697. I Am Told They Were Only Made From 1891-1893. Can Anyone Confirm That? I Am Also Told That This Was The First Mauser, And That All Other Mausers Derived From This One? Can Anyone Confirm This? If All This Is True I Would Like To Restore It For My Nephew Who Is On This 2nd Tour Of Duty In Irac. After 1 Tour In Afganistan, And He Was In New Orleans The Day After Katrina Until 5 Days Before That Christmas.

Thank You All,
Bryan

The first (mass produced) Mauser was the 1871 11mm.
The 1891 is the earliest smokeless Mauser that is readily available. It differs in several respects from later models. It has a hook extractor, not the famous non-rotating claw and it has a protruding single stack magazine, not the flush staggered box magazine. Those started showing up in volume with the 1893 rifles.

I don't know where to find an 1891 stock anyhow.

By the way, Why Do You Capitalize Every Word? It Makes Your Post A Little Hard To Read (BUT NOT AS BAD AS ALL CAPITALS or with no capitals at all even for proper nouns like mauser and bryan and louisiana usually with no punctuation so maybe i should leave well enough alone what do you think?)

i didn't know that i was capitolizing every word. i am only typing in small caps. besides i was never a good english student. i almost failed english in college. anyway thanks for you info.

This gun is gone. I just got rid of it as is w/ sporter stock and sights for $75.00. made $25.00. I coldn't find a stock anywhere and I checked everywhere. so it was not worth any more time. Thanks everyone for input and information.
