I inherited an Arisaka 38 Cavalry Carbine from a family member, just in time for tax day. I'm having a little trouble deciphering the serial number (175XXX)
The barrel has an 'S' mark, but the info I found on the web says they didn't start doing that until 800,000.
So far, I've dissembled the rifle and bolt and cleaned the metal parts with MPro7 and bronze wool.
Did I correctly identify it, and can anyone tell me what year the rifle was made?
what is the original wood finish, and what can I do to restore it?
any other interesting facts or notes about these rifles?
I'm taking detail photos tonight, if there's anything else ya'll would like to see...
thanks in advance for any help.
