Sorry for beating the AR .308 question's to death. I just look for knowledge before I buy something. 1500.00+ is a lot of money for me and I want it to be well spent.

For those of you who use Armalite gen2 proprietary mags have you had any problems with them? Any thing that makes the un reliable?

The Gen II's have been fanstastic.

The reason Armalite changed them was that the modified M14 mag had feeding reliability issues on account of the little plunger for the bolt hold open. It created excess friction at the rear of the follower. You can remove it, and gen I mags run great, but then it won't lock back on empty.

The Gen II mags incorporated a channel for the BHO catch, and use a follower like that of an AR-15/M-16 GI mag.

Only problem with the GenII's is keeping ammo in them.

Keep an eye on the ArmaLite site, they have some good sales during the holidays. ArmaLite 7.62 mags are really not that expensive. Look at M1A mags, with in 2-3 bucks of the GenII's.

It's easy to become accustomed to low cost AR15 mags. High capacity 10/22 mags cost about the same as GenII's.

gen II mags

Owned seven AR 10s still have 2. One out of my first five Gen. II mags caused a short stroke. Too much phosphate inside. Ran the follower up and down a few times, dumped the residue and no more problems.
