Inquiry into police shooting
An investigation has begun after a man was shot, apparently by mistake, by an armed police officer.
The 44-year-old man is recovering in hospital after being shot in the arm by an officer from the Metropolitan Police's SO19 firearms unit at 1730 BST on Saturday.
He and another man were walking along Ledbury Road in Notting Hill when they were approached by three officers in a marked car.
Scotland Yard says the details are unclear at this stage and they do not know whether the officers began talking to the men before the shot was fired.
A spokesman said: "Early indications are that the officer may have accidentally discharged his firearm but a full investigation will be carried out to establish if this is the case, and if so, how exactly this happened.My daughter and I didn't even say anything, we just dropped everything and ran

"As is usual, the officer who discharged his firearm has been relieved of firearms duties at this time."
The victim was given first aid at the scene and was taken to hospital for treatment. The other man spoke to police at the scene and was released.
Scotland Yard said they were not stopped at random but as part of an "intelligence-led" operation.
One woman who lives near the scene and did not wish to be named was in her kitchen at the time.
'Full and impartial' investigation
She told BBC London: "I have never heard a shot in my life but I knew it was a gunshot because it was so different.
"My daughter and I didn't even say anything, we just dropped everything and ran.
"The whole street came out because everybody heard it. There was the guy screaming, he had obviously been shot, on the floor."
An investigation by the Metropolitan Police Service's Directorate of Professional Standards is being overseen by the Police Complaints Authority (PCA).
PCA member Nicola Williams said: "I will ensure that a full and impartial investigation is conducted into this matter."
