Man pulls gun on cops during a traffic stop

Boston police shoot, kill suspect after traffic stop

(Boston - AP) — Police officers fatally shot a 40-year-old Boston man who allegedly threatened them with a gun during an early morning confrontation.

Police, who did NOT release the man's name, said the man was driving in the city's Roxbury section at around 3:30 a-m today when officers stopped him for a traffic offense.

The man allegedly got out of the car and had a confrontation with the officers before fleeing.

After the man threatened them with a gun during the chase, two officers shot him in the upper torso several times.

He was pronounced dead at Boston Medical Center.

A .40 caliber gun was recovered at the scene, and crack cocaine was recovered from the man at the hospital.

A police press release said the man was "known to police and has a long criminal history," and was currently on parole.

Police said they are investigating, and Mayor Thomas Menino said he is awaiting a report on the shooting.
