Armed cyclist robs milk bars

09oct03

A MAN held up two milk bars with a handgun before escaping on a bicycle in Victoria's north last night, police said.

The man first struck a milk bar in Wyndham Street in regional Shepparton and threatened staff with a handgun before escaping with cash about 7.15pm, police said.

He then held up a St Georges Road milkbar about 9pm, before staff saw him escape on a bicycle, police said.

No shots were fired and no one was injured in either incident, police said.

Police believe the same man robbed both stores.

"It would be fair to say we're investigating links between the two incidents," a police spokesman said.

Here in America we had a former world class cyclist (Olympian maybe? I can't remember) who became a serial bank robber. I don't remember if he got away on a bike but I want to say he did. He robbed many banks but my details of the story (which I read in a magazine) are hazy now.

Maybe he's not old enough to drive. Maybe he's old enough to drive, but had his license revoked, and doesn't want to break the law by driving without one. Maybe he's not bright enough to figure out how to steal a car, so he's robbing milk bars to assemble the down payment. Maybe...

Oh. Wait. Australia. Never mind. The criminals there are a lot like the laws: ludicrous.
