They don't teach "Duck and Cover" in schools anymore. Most people look around for the source of gunshots before thinking of getting to cover. The worker was in "flight" mode, and was doing everything to get away from the shooting, even if that means walking right into it. :banghead:

Then again, I'd be hard pressed to take cover first if I was walking along and suddenly heard shots. Like I said, we're not taught survival skills from a young age.

I certainly hope not.
What to do in the event of an Atomic Bomb?

"Duck and Cover".

What to do when men take over your plane? Duck and Cover!

What do you do when some individuals are going on a shooting spree? Duck and Cover! (like many of the victims shot under desks in Columbine while doing that, and people huddled on the floor in Virginia Tech.)

I think the Duck and Cover mindset has failed us for awhile.
Duck and Cover was taught to children because they are not expected to be capable of resolving a dangerous situation.
Rather than telling the children a nuclear weapon detonating is something that they have no control over, they offered some assurance, and a feeling of control with "Duck and Cover" propaganda.
You are well protected, and you can even play your important role by just ducking and covering. A comforting message.
Arguably slightly better than the "we will take care of you, just be obedient" message today. At least Duck and Cover gave them some idea they had a role in thier own survival, even if usualy false. (Though some actualy did use shelters that from a distance would have offered protection.)

Adults always Ducking and Covering is very similar to "hide and hope someone else resolves the problem." Sometimes it works, and someone else does resolve the problem.
Other times since everyone is doing that 1 madman can effectively kill dozens that could have easily overpowered them if they had acted. A few men with small razors (box cutters) can kill hundreds. As long as most of those hundreds just hope someone else will deal with it and everything will then be okay.
Millions can be herded to camps by a few thousand, as long as most hope it will all just be over soon, that someone else will do the acting that fixes it.
That hope that somehow someone else will fix things is half of the problem.

Taking cover is good strategy when bullets are flying, but I would not compare it to adults using Duck and Cover.
Of course being the only one willing to act against bad odds in a Duck and Cover mindset world leaves you at a disadvantage, and why it is in your best interest to change that mindset previously.
You don't want to be the only passenger out of hundreds willing to act.
You don't want to be the only one on the train heading to the concentration camp willing to act, it won't do you much good while those with you all hope for the best and try not to upset thier captors.

FWIW, surveillance cameras typically don't pan left/right or zoom in/out either, unless they have an operator running them. Definitely a re-enactment, with a very small amount of real footage. Good story though, and the re-enactment made it much better. Too bad he didn't get more than one.
