Just picked up my Compact 10/22 for Nephew #1 and my Marlin 915YS for Nephew #2.

The 10/22 has a new trigger, a Simmons Red Dot, sling posts and a cheap Uncle Mike's sling all put in by the gunsmith while I filled out the 4473. Thanks to everyone at the Tippecanoe Sport Shop for their help in ordering the guns for me. http://tippysportshop.com/

Thanks to everyone at THR for their suggestions! Here are some pics of my presents for the boys:

From left to right:

1. Ruger Compact 10/22;
2. Marlin 915YS;
3. Ruger Compact 10/22 and Marlin 915YS with 4,400 rounds of .22lr for the boys;
4. Marlin-armed El Tejon repelling rampaging zombie geese outside Dan Flory's condo.

Good Lord, El T - you're mere larvae! Happy B-Day, mine is the 23rd and my birth certificate was carved on a stone tablet.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to head for the Geritol, Bailey's and Viagra.

Update: We actually ran out of .22LR ammo (all 4000 rounds) shooting zombie geese, so we had to resort to using a Bagwell bowie, a Fender Stratocaster, and a cricket bat. :evil:
 
I'm not sure...it was ocean turquoise and I think someone told me it was made in 1962...regardless it made a sweet goose basher! ;)















*For the non-guitar people out there, if you really did destroy an original '62 Strat, God would send you to hell forever, no questions asked. :cool:
 
sm, not exactly, my pants are "flat earth brown"; my socks, otoh, are coyote brown . . . for enhanced tacticality. The Old Navy shirt is to confuse the zombie geese into believing that I am a harmless yuppie.

You can never be too tactical when dealing with zombie geese in Dan's condo association's retention pond.:D

Very nice, El T. The training time you spend with them is more valuable than the hardware, give them lots of your time. Passing forward is not only a good thing, it's absolutely necessary. Kudos to you-

Lee, thanks. Your words are very true.

The best training comes at mother's knee, then dad, then grandpa, and then and only then is it Uncle Kirk time. Of course Uncle Kirk time will be far more in-depth.

So, today, October 29th, I "test fired" the compact 10/22 (I must maintain high equipment standards for the boys!).:D

What a delightful weapon! However, I'm going to have to do better than that Simmons red dot. It was a sunny day with deep blue skies. The red dot was difficult to see even on "11" when I started shooting quickly and then moving with the weapon.

Hmmmm, problems, problems, problems--isn't it great?:D
 
For the children,

El T has stocked the safe of the nephews quite well. The reaction should be overwhelming. This will be the first scoped firearm for the eldest.

Nephew #2 sleeps with the 'American Rifleman' at night. So his stainless rifle should do well.

This will make firearm #4 and #5 in .22LR for the nephews in the past two years.

The other three children are still too young to recieve the bounty of ElT.

Both rifles were a huge success!

My brother and I shot for about 30 minutes alone (my dad came out to shoot the CZ since his circles of friends have been yapping abou them), we took Noah's CZ Scout and his Compact 10/22. We were joined by the two oldest boys for maybe 10 minutes. Noah's problem is not in shooting but manipulation of the 10/22. Even though we did things dry in the basement, he was new to the gun (but not unsafe). Will take time.

After 10 minutes of shooting with the boys the skies opened and all the water in the Midwest came down on us. We cleared weapons and ran for the house in soggy retreat. Ahhh, yet another Brown and Gray Indiana Christmas.:D

We wiped everything down with Birchwood/Casey "Barricade" wipes, and then Noah received a quick lesson on field stripping his weapon. Now to start planning for his 9th birthday!:)
 
telo, the iron sights are really cool and great for kids. They are green in the back and red/orange in the front. Same sights were on the Marlin 915 and nephew #2 like them a lot.

Yes, I have heard that rampaging geese were a problem in Minnesota as my cousin complained about said geese when he managed a golf course in Woodbury. No doubt men in sandals in St. Paul keeping hugging the geese.:D

sm, will do. Matt forbids me posting any photos of the boys (sad world we live in) but you should have seen their faces when I walked in with the wrapped gun boxes (I told them it was full of Barbi dolls and pink socks).:D
