Arming the troops in the skies

It's a good article that talks about the various steps/hassles to allow pilots to be armed.

I like this quote:

"So basically I think what they're going to do is make it such an onerous inconvenience to carry the weapon, just day-to-day carry, plus they'll make the training requirement so onerous that most of the guys are going to just not do it. ... I think it's going to be a very small percentage who are going to bother."

That is exactly what the chief counsel/FAA legal liason of my company said to me just last week. The anti's win by making the process too difficult to bother with.

In addition, each pilot will have to pay for his/her own training and use normal days off to accomplish the training. The airlines will not help any pilot get through this program.

Seminole, the copyright issue has come up many, many times before. I think that in cases where the copyright owner is really serious about defending his rights, one can at least post a link to the originating site, plus quotes from the article. I've found that if one quotes the full article in a forum like this, and includes a link to the originating site, there's usually no problem either. The difficulty arises when one takes an article, uses it without attribution in one's own site, and then gets snooty when the copyright owner objects!
