This same vest has? Wouldn't that mean it's actually weakened?
You might think so, except for the part where it already stopped some impressive stuff while compromised. Take it for what it's worth to you.

How well does some of the Eastern European Tokarev ammo do against vests? The steel jacketed stuff, that California has outlawed? If you have covered this before, a link perhaps. I have some Polish mil-surp that penetrates cars and trees like no pistol round I have ever seen. Thanks.

There are variations of 9MM. The US commercial 9MM is the wimpiest on the planet.

The NATO Spec 9MM is a whole different ballgame. Every round of NATO 9MM is at the low range of US Proof Rounds for 9MM.

That is why the technical feasibility tests for the 9MM handgun candidates had to be dropped from 10,000 rounds to 5000 because the first 9MM test at Aberdeen had all the candidates go down between 4000 and 6500 if I recall them rightly.

9MM fired from short barrels has a lower velocity. When 9MM really shines is when it is fired from a longer barrel like a SMG or a MP5.

I once did a rather involved test at FLETC. I got 357 Mag ammo from all agencies had in their bunkers and chronographed it from 3", 4", 6" handgun and Marlin 1894 rifle with a 18" barrel. If I run across the data I will publish it but as I remember the average velocity enhancement was like 275 FPS and there was one round that was near 400 fps increase from shortest to longest barrel.

There was a round developed at Aberdeen that would punch a IIA from a 5" barrel at 100 yards! ! ! ! ! I asked the designer what the estimate was from a 357 Magnum and he figured 150 layers of Kevlar or maybe 6 or 7 vests. That design weighed about 95 grains..

Not surprising at all. Liberty Civil Defense sheds half the usual projectile weight in favor of hyper velocity with a copper projectile. The same outfit makes an actual LE/Mil only solid bronze 9mm round designed to pop level 3A. People have fairly strong opinions on the real-world (for lack of a better term) application of this ammo. To me it is at least interesting given the onerous as-yet-on-the-books prohibitions on pistol ammo using metals apart from copper and lead.

Thank you armarsh. That was exactly what I was looking for and exactly what I suspected the steel jacketed 7.62X25 ammo would do. That stuff is nasty. My Tokarev will shoot entirely through trees that a 9mm won't, and it is Nato 9mm. I have a 12" diameter Maple tree in my back yard that has a couple of holes in it. Guess what put them there.

Gotta get some of them ++P+++ nuke "bird toenail" 9mm rounds and rip a guys arms and legs off...

Dem was banned in the early 90's, would have been worse than 9/11 if New York city gangbangers used 'em in their AK's......right?:barf:
