Armys new weapon system !

It will be a while before the 7.62x51 and 5.56 NATO will be phased out, if ever.
There was nothing in the articles on replacing the M-240, so 7.62nato will probably remain in inventory for a long time. Especially as it's the coax MG in all of our armored fighting vehicles. The 240B is the base for heavy MGs at the Platoon & Company level.

As this is an experimental fielding, I'm passing convinced one of the issues they will find in using the .277 in an M4 "replacement" is that rifles scores and qualifications will suffer. You simply do not replace a mild recoil weapon with a heavier weapon with more recoil and not expect scores to not suffer.

Our Armed Forces, for better or worse, have a number of people, even at the sharp, pointy end of things, who are only just competent with the M4 right now.

The logistical nightmare of having the clerks, truck drivers, drone deployers, and the like all toting M4 as ersatz PDW beggars imagining.

Color me skeptical. Especially when asked to accept the assertions of journalists about matters they know less about than Jon Snow.
