This will be my first AK rifle, I'm considering a couple Arsenal but really don't know enough about the variants to make a fully informed decision.

First up is a NIB SLR107-31, cost is $999.

Next is a used in excellent condition SLR101s, cost is $1299.

From what I can tell the main difference is the latter has a milled versus stamped receiver.

As a side note, I could also go the cheap route and pick up a Century Arms AK for about $600 and use the rest of the money for ammo.

So, if the Arsenal, which one?

Or save the cash and buy a Century?

Thanks THR.

Of the Arsenals, I'd go with the less expensive stamped reciever. Milled doesn't give you anything other than more weight and more cost.
If you're looking at saving $500 or so with a Century (WASR?), assuming you get a well-built one with a clean, chrome bore, I'd go with the cheaper Century. I own or have owned many AK's, from Polytechs on down, including a few humble WASR's, and my view is that if you have a straight,well-built AK.....then you have you an AK !! The rest is mostly bragging rights.
If you have an uncanted, properly riveted WASR that fires reliably, then you have a good rifle. If money's no concern (but it sounds like it is), then sure, get the Arsenal, they're outstanding, but if it were me, I'd save the money for ammo. ;)

Go with the Vepr. $800 from Atlantic Firearms. If you want milled, Century Centurion over at JG Sales or Classic Firearms.

IIRC, Atlantic (or is it Arsenal) has converted Saigas for sale; I'd probably spring for one of those.
I'd skip the used $1300 AK.
I know the new arsenal AKs are nice, but it becomes a real hard sell (for me personally) when prices go north of $1000 or so; JMHO.

Edited. Now I want that Russian Red AK...

I'd go with a Russian Saiga at Classic Firearms or a Yugo Zastava N-PAP Underfolder from Atlantic Firearms. Stamped receivers are OK.

Edit: The latter does not have a chrome lined barrel. The Russian Saiga is the most bang for your buck at $620 and better than a WASR.

My 2cents...
Consider the VZ2008 from century for $499 with 5 mags and extra accessories. And use the rest of the $$$ for ammo. I have 3 total and all run perfect with excellent accuracy and reliability.
The VZ2008 is a milled receiver striker fired rifle with an open ejection port giving you higher reliability. I have found accuracy on par with my arsenal saigas and slr's with open sights.
Just my humble suggestion!!

All I have ever owned in x39 were milled bulgarian arsenals, but that is going to change this week when a new slr107-34 comes in. I have owned stamped 5.45 rifles and vepr, saiga 308's. I have high hopes for the 107.

Thanks guys, found a Century Centurion with gray laminate furniture online and bought it. Will post up after I get it and have a chance to shoot it.

All thoughts and suggestions greatly appreciated,

I have owned several ak variants. i currently own an slr107cr, couldnt be happier, reliability, fit and finish, good trigger, and accurate. I fired a 6 inch group at 400 yards just sitting in the dirt, these rifles shoot great! get one you wont regret it!
