Recently, I purchased an Arsenal AK-47. It is the SGL-21 model with fixed stock to exact. The rifle is hands down the best AK variant I have ever handled . However, there are two things that I don't just love about it. The first thing is the skinny standard AK pistol grip. This was easily remedied by changing it for a US PALM Battle Grip. It's a little funky looking but very ergonomic. (I recommend it for anyone with an AK.)

The second thing is the metal buttplate on the stock. I find it very slippery and would like to replace it with either a rubber or plastic one. However, I absolutely do NOT want to change the entire stock or change the length of pull (and make the gun look crappy) with a cheap slip-on style buttpad. All of the other ones I have found are either made for Commie folding stocks or have the screw holes in a slightly different position. Very frustrating!

So, does anyone know of a rubber or plastic buttplate THAT FITS THE ARSENAL AKs standard stock?

At this point, I am about to just add some grip tape to the thing. Thanks for any help and especially if you can provide a link.

another option might be to spray coat the existing buttplate with something a little less slick.

I have thought about it. Any suggestions on what product to use? I was think about something like Rhino-liner, if they sell it in small spray cans. Tips?

They sell stuff in cans at walmart used to coat the underbody of a car. It's similar to rhino liner, but comes in a spray can. You will get a nice grippy texture, but soft and "rubbery" and it should help cushion some, but not too much. More layers should, theoretically, increase the recoil dampening properties.

I saw some stuff online call "plasti dip." It comes in a spray can or a regular type paint can. Has anyone used it for anything? Looks promising.

Plasti-Dip probably won't be durable enough for you.
It'll tend to peel off quickly from the edges of the butt plate.

One trick is to buy some 3/16" thick rubber and cut a pad cover from it.
Lay the butt plate down on the rubber and use a ball point to trace around it.
Cut the pad out and sand to final shape.
You get some longer butt plate wood screws that fit the stock and use them to screw the cover on the butt plate. You can even cut a hole in it to give access to the cleaning kit.

You can buy this stuff from Tandy leather. It's sold as "Poundo" boards. It's black rubber, shiny on one side, flat and slightly rougher on the other.
It's 3/16" thick.
Leather workers use it as a cutting board.
I've used it for pads on equipment and once glued two pieces together with Super Glue to form a butt pad for an AK rifle.

It says that color may vary, and I have seen these in a light tan color.
Contact Tandy to get black.

Not the best pic, but you'll get the idea. I just took a piece of skateboard tape (tread tape, etc), cut it out and stuck it on. Works great and has been holding up well. Also works well on other parts of the gun. Cheap too. :)

I think the rhino liner spray would work... but I also like the rubber pad idea. Might look into that one myself to extend my stock a little.
