I am in the market for getting an AK-47 and thought I would just be content on getting a WASR 10. After reading many many forum posts and comments about AKs I realized that an Arsenal SGL-21 is the way to go for me.

One problem though, I really want wooden furniture on it cause im a sucker for the classic AK look :)

I was thinking of going with Iron Wood Designs, but am not sure which wooden set is right for my gun. I am guessing it would be the SAIGA package they offer but wanted to be sure.

Also, I'd like any input on what you guys think about getting an Arsenal AGL-21.....

Where would you reccomend ordering from?

Thanks in advance!

My other question was that I wanted to verify normal 30rnd magazines fit into these guns? I see the most sell with a 5rnd mag.

I was interested in getting TAPCO waffle mags....

thanks for the info!

love how yours turned out...i wanna get the Hogue grip too

if you dont mind me asking....what all did you use to re-finish your stock and front grip?

First use a large paint brush or rag that you dont want to use again and cover the wood with the stripper. Let it sit for the time it says on the can. Then I used a small windshield ice scrapper and gently "pushed/scrapped" the old finish off. Once you have all the old finish off clean the wood thoroughly and let it dry completly.

Once the wood is completly dry use 60 grit wood sandpaper and sand all the wood. Make sure you sand only with the grain and not across it. Also do not sand to roughly.

Remove all the sawdust. Then move up to 120 grit, and follow all the rules I stated before.

Make sure the wood is completly clean and there is no sawdust on any of it. Then I used a wife beater tank top shirt and ripped a piece off and applied my Minwax sedona red 222 to the cloth. Apply the stain with the grain and dont glob it all on there causing runs. I did around 5 coats. The more coats you put on the darker it will become.

Once the staining was complete and dry, I applied my first coat of minwax semi gloss clear coat.

After each coat is dry use the finest steel wool available 0000 and rub lightly with the grain. Remove any steel wool particles. Then apply another coat and repeat the process I said before. I did this until the can was empty which had to of been around 20 coats. This resulted in a "mile deep" impenetrable finish. It literally feels like rubbing glass.

This is how I did it and others may use different methods but I believe this is the best way using standard materials available at the local store. I spent alot of time in the custom woodworking industry before and after the military.

Also I have new in box black hogue grip available to sell to you. PM me if interested.

Are these built by saiga? How is the pedigree of these, what parts are Russian?
They are Saigas, built by Russia's Izhevsk Arsenal.

All the parts are Russian except for those required by 922r, which will depend on the model.

Awesome! I love the look of these, and to know that they're fully Russian is even better. So these are usually around 700. And cal legal magazine...well, think I may have found myself a nice BDay present :)
