Finally got around to painting my USGI fiberglass stock I acquired for my M1A/M14 and thought I would share the results. I was originally thinking I would get fancy, but in the end decided to just do a rattle can job with a few Krylon camo colors. Let me know what you think......

Looks good! :)

Just watch out, its an addiction. Hard to stop at just one.

Im painting my MPV as I type. :D

Looks fine to me :)

Here's a rattle can job I did yrs ago, tore blue masking tape to layer up stripes.
Fogged it green and then highlighted for contrast with tan.

Gotta watch it when using tape for stripes. Too much paint later will make for topography.

Finished with 3 or 4 coats of matte clear. Still looks like I just painted it.

Have used leaves for stencils, half arsed camo job on one of my recurves.
I like a cool pattern, but am also content to just stripe it vaguely with colors of contrast. Or just coat the whole think in whatever medium camo color is on sale.

Critters don't care, main thing is to bust up the outline and eliminate shine.

This yrs hunting rig is an old Blackwidow HF1225, shiny and in VVG shape (made in '72). Proly just flat black it all over.

That looks fantastic! Reminds me of the tiger green camo the ARVN guys used in 'Nam.

I'm quite proud of this rifle. This was my second camo job, using the artist sponge method.

Just to give you an idea, here I am holding the rifle out in the field. I think it works pretty well!

Thanks Cool. FWIW the old advisor Tiger is my fave. The colors of this rifle are very similar (not as brown or tight as other patterns). I could have layered tape and gotten way more close to the tan having smaller areas, harder edges..............but went fast and dirty and this I think "close enough".

Proly 2 hrs labor in that camo job. Have spent way more time on intricate patterns back in the day (people paid me to camo their bows).

I think it a balance, between cool factor, time/money spent, and effectiveness. Many patterns are too busy IMHO.

Sometimes it takes a bit of experience and an eye, to know "when to say when" (be that in doing a single pattern on an item, or blasting camo on every gun/bow in the house LOL).

It easy to get carried away.

My Contender carbine is still all black. Thought about doing a camo job on the stock/ forend..............even hand painting it (can duplicate anything, was an art major of some skill). But I'm old, lazy and cheap.

So that gun after 3 yrs is still factory black, as is my 870 turkey gun, and my Contender pistol.......

My pref is for stocks only camo.
I like the metal left alone.

Do think full camo jobs to offer concealment advantages.....but for regular hunting of critters I don't think it's needed.

In fact, years ago at an ATA show I asked the top Hoyt dude about a color for hunting, non camo. 2 yrs later the "safari bronze" came out. Man I still dig that color.

What rifle?? And why are you making those weird hand gestures?

JK! Looks good.

Looks great! Good color selection and nice job of contrasting between light and dark to create some depth.

I'm old enough to prefer Blue and walnut. But do like "dressed" working guns. All these are well done. I just need to get someone to Diamond plate duracoat my .458 SOCOM.

Nature Boy, that is a very good looking job on the stock. Wish I was that talented.

Why not paint the entire rifle and optics? If you really needed to blend in the black would stick out like a sore thumb...during the day and especially at night if NV equipment was being used.
