As a gamer, I had a great idea...

Well, they say that a gun on you is better than a gun in the safe. At home, I'd rather not lug a gun around on my person, so I usually keep them in the safe. However, that is all the way across home from where I spend most of my time, which is at my computer desk. Watching True Lies, I had an idea...

I got a cheap strip of webbing from Amazon, cut two 18-inch strips off, stacked on on the other, and screwed it to the bottom of my computer desk. Now, when I get home and go to my computer, I can just put my paddle holster that came with my XD under the desk, and I'm ready for when someone breaks in.

The best part? The webbing cost me $10 (and I still have several feet of it left over) and I spent less than a buck on screws. Since I'm using the holster that came with the gun, I didn't even have to buy an extra one!

I found out that the best use for paddle holsters is to just screw them under things. Then use a proper holster to carry with. :)

Hey, when I put it on to carry OWB, it sits on my shorts without requiring a belt, offers a clean draw, holds the gun in place, and covers the trigger. I don't see a downside, except that OWB doesn't conceal very well.

Yeah, I was skeptical about paddle holsters myself until I got this serpa. I started off using the belt loop, then decided to try the paddle and its worked out great.

I just wear my pistol, 99% of the time I'm home, I have my XD-40 on me fully loaded and with a Streamlight TLR-1 in a Galco HALO holster. Doesn't bother me one bit.

Instead of going through all that drama, couldn't you just put it down on the end table, coffee table, or atop the game console?

I dont need a loaded gun around when im at home; im married, ive got a 5yo, 9mo and a pregnant wife, Im sometimes hesitant to come in the door and i live here!

I'm a PC gamer, so it would be on the computer desk.
I'm a sloppy PC gamer, so there is no room on the computer desk. That's why it needed to go under.

That was THE best reply and I thank you for a good New Year giggle.

But I too dislike the paddle and only used it to go to and from work [ when I was LEO ] then left it in the locker.

Leaving a gun in the sight of a possible child [ under furniture ] is bad idea.

I do not have any children in my home, and I still keep all guns for home S/D well hidden and not available to any but a tear apart search.

Actually, I moved out of my parent's basement 2 months ago...my coworkers were upset, because now they can't joke about me living in my parent's basement.

Scaaty, no kids, and I don't leave it there 24/7. It's just a nice place to put it when I'm at my desk.

Mine says either on the table directly next to the desk or in the drawer, or just on my hip. the UPS driver was just here a minute ago and I think I gave him a bit of a fright answering the door with a Glock on my hip, he about dropped by package.

Not a bad idea though, I've been thinking about securing a Kydex holster somewhere in my vehicle like this for CC.

I just wear mine around the house with a cheap holster that goes on and off fast. If it's not in a holster, I just set it on the table or floor.

Never liked the idea of cheap holsters, should just get a good one.

Just because it's cheap doesn't mean it isn't secure. I've been using it as a house holster since 2007, still in great shape. The only reason it's cheap is because I got a good deal on it. Horsehide Galco level 2 clip holster.
