Asheville NC Gunstores?

Depends on what are you shopping for. I spend a lot of time at On Target, and if you looking for something specific, I may know if he has it in stock. However its a pretty small store so he doesnt keep a lot in stock. Indoor range as well, pistol calibers only.

Last time I was at Pawn World he had a pretty good selection, of course since its a Pawn shop most of them are used. His prices are high, but I've heard he's flexable. I've never purchased anything there so I cant be sure. No range.

I've heard good things about Rex's just outside of Hendersonville, however I've never been there. Indoor(?) range, I dont know what rifles are allowed, however I know some are (AR and AKs for example).

Pawn World has a supply of used, common hunting rifles and shotguns. I've heard they had a huge selection of used rifles in years past but lost a lot during the floods last year. I did buy a very nice late 1970's Winchester 94 from them a few months ago, it was not hard to talk the price down to $190. So they are open to haggling. Their pistol selection is mostly pricey and worn. But you never know what you're going to find. They do have some neat non-gun stuff like old tin signs. It's not your typical pawn shop with old toasters and blenders. Enka exit off of 40, up past the Shoney's.

Rex's is pretty good, no used guns though. The range allows anything; I know a guy who'll take his M14 there. I've shot my .30-30 and 12 ga stagecoach shotgun there. Range time is $7/ half hour. They have 20 pistols or so to rent. I rented a semi-auto Tommy gun there and it promptly broke. Upward Rd exit off of I-26 past Hendersonville, take a right off the exit and it's probably a mile from the exit.

On Target is a nice small shop. The people there are very friendly. They sell both new and used. The hours are good, the place closes at 9pm. Pistol range time is $5/ half hour. I've seen a suprising amount of girls shoot there. Too bad you weren't up here on a Monday when they have informal IPSC and IDPA matches, lotsa fun. It's on Sweeten Creek Rd, not sure which exit off of 40.

Rex's indoor range will allow any kind of rifle, though nothing steel core (such as Czech silvertip 7.62x54R). They are trying to implement a new rule against birdshot from shotguns due to complaints of splash back.

I haven't been to On Target since I applied for my first CCW, with my last obtained though Rex’s who is much closer to home, but I remember the indoor range at On Target to be more spacious. However, I also remember only handguns allowed (with the exception of .22LR/Mag rifles). On Target may have expanded their shop since I've been there, but I try my best to avoid Asheville whenever possible.

Remember to slap on a "Save Mother Earth" or "Peace, not War" bumpersticker on your car when in Asheville as to blend in.

Pawn world is off exit 44, take a right (at least off of 40W), and its on the right. If you see Lowe's on the left, turn around. You'll notice the neon sign at Pawn World. Their parking lot sucks. Not your typical pawn shop is right, they had two harleys on the floor a while back. I dont think they lost anything during the flood, they packed up most of the stuff and got it out. When there was talk of another flood, right after they got their stuff un-packed, they packed it up again just in case. I had a pistol pawned there at the time.

On target is off of exit 51. Take a left at the end of the ramp (off of 40E), go straight. When you see Stor-Mor in the right, get in the center turn lane. You'll see their blue sign on the left, turn there and and turn left again when you see the "No contruction parking" sign.

edit: Thanks boing. I dont know how I missed that.

Thanks. I am going up for the Fire & Rescue Instructors conference so I am hoping there is some time to check out some gun shops. As far as Rex's in Hendersonville, where is it at? When I am in Hendersonville I usually drop by Mountain Tek (not guns but great prices on high level and water rescue gear) and I'll be close enough to pop over and visit.

Billy, Rex's is in a brick building that looks more like a ranch house than a store. It's a great place to shoot, being very bright and airy, imho. The pro shopt is also nice.

Take I26 East like you were heading to Spartanburg SC. Make a right turn on to Upward Road (can't miss the exit signs). Travel approximately 1 mile and Rex's will be on the left.

If you miss it the first time, you'll end up at a T-intersection in about a quarter mile, with Ingles directly ahead. No biggie to turn around.

If you're inside H'ville, take 176 towards Saluda, like you were going to grab 25 south into Greenville. When you see the Harris Teeter on your right, you have approximately one more mile before Upward Road and the Ingles.

I think that's right.

Jeff @ On Target, Sweeten Creek Rd, is pretty cool to deal with. The operation is a little darker/drearier than Rex's, but if all you want to do is shoot, it's a good place to do it at.

Wish I knew this when I was on my honey moon in Ashville 7 years ago tomorrow. The weather was crappy and we were looking for other "indoor activities" to do in the afternoon.

On target is off of exit 41

That's Exit 51, I think. Low key place, nice people (except for the longhair with the Frankenstein boots and the machinegun fetish.) ;)

Actually, there are two longhairs. Neither one of them are very nice.

One has Frankenstein feet, and the other has a MG fetish. Well, had one until Jeff sold the MP5...

Blue Ridge Outdoor Sports at 2314 Spartanburg Hwy, East Flat Rock NC, 28726 is in the area.

Leicester Pawn has a large selection...they were covered up with Ruger Vaqueros...a tad on the high side I thought.
I tend to favor Rex's...fair prices...good selection...good folks...I've never even seen their range though.
On Target doesn't know me from Adam...I don't go there enough..but they always treat me like I'm their only customer.

(or is that "Lester"?)....gotta be a local.

Are any of you guys a member of the Asheville Practical Shooting Club?
