Anyone familiar with Asheville (CCW)?

First off, being under the impression Asheville has a disdainful view of those who carry concealed (and of guns in general), I'm expecting Asheville mall (in Western NC) to have "no firearms" signs up.
If there are those here familiar with Asheville mall, can anyone tell me if I can legally CCW there? I am being dragged there tomorrow by the wife and would rather know before I get to the door.

Also, is there a site that lists businesses that have placed signs on their entrances that prohibit those from carrying on their premises? It sure would be helpful but I can't it with a Google search.

To find out whether the people of Asheville are "disdainful" of CCW, they would first need to know you are carrying.

I don't recall seeing a sign at the mall.

Thanks for the reply, ny32182. I agree that letting sleeping dogs lie is an effective way to avoid trouble, but I also don't want to do anything to risk my license.

I know the mall in Hendersonville, NC took their signs down, but I also know Asheville is far more hard-core when it come to the whole "guns are evil & dangerous" philosophy.

I always patronize only businesses that recognize my rights. I'm hoping I don't have to temporarily amend this practice.

I don't do malls but can tell you that Denny's on Paton ave. there has a NO Gun sign at the door. Sucks but thats there right so i go spend money at another restaunt. That was the first i have seen a sign there. Drop the wife and go to ontarget for some practice time..

LOL, I haven't been to On Target for years (ever since Rex's indoor range opened in H'ville). Unfortunately, I have to go since I already promised I would. I'll make a point not to stop at that Denny's though.

Can't speak for asheville....I'm in eastern nc. If their sign isn't posted at the door plainly, then it is legal to carry...assuming you abide by nc's usual laws. No gov't property, no event/facility that requires you to pay a fee to enter (fairs and movies come to mind) and no place that serves alcohol. That last one was up for a vote, but I don't know what happened to it. Last time I checked, you still couldn't carry concealed into an establishment that serves alcohol, which includes a huge percentage of restaurants. You'll spot the occasional retail store (like Kohl's) that always clearly post no ccw's at the door.

I've never been to this mall (or Asheville, for that matter). I can tell you that malls can trick you with their signage. They can be present at a main/common entrance, but absent if you enter the mall through an "anchor store." I found this to be the case at College Square Mall in Morristown.

The mall here in Springfield, MO has no concealed carry signs. But if they "catch" you, all they can do is ask you to leave. It's not a felony even if it's posted, in Missouri. It just starts with being asked to leave, then a slap on the wrist the next time, then suspension of CCW for a month, then 3 months or so.

It has to be posted at the entrance to every public door. Should you happen to enter one that isn't posted, you are obviously ignorant of the fact the store disallows ccw. I'm not condoning this method, just stating that the store must play by the rules and follow local ordinances to the T should they choose to not allow ccw.

i can see asheville being a pretty anti town. im going to school 30 mins west of there and i try to avoid it as i dont really agree with alot of the peoples political agendas and i also dont like the smell of pot smoke which tends to cover most of the areas around UNCA and several other areas

Just grow your hair out, buy a hemp "man purse" to conceal your firearm in, ride a bicycle that costs more than your car, and wear tie-dyed t-shirts and sandals. You'll fit right in in Asheville

Plans changed and we bought a television instead (55" Vizio LCD, 1080p HD) and didn't have time to go to Asheville.

I'll still have to go in the next few days, so I'll give them a call.

was there today, sign on some of doors, but if you enter through a restaurant or a store, not the main entrance, then there are no signs....but don't worry, there are some unarmed security guards riding around on Segways that should keep you more then safe.

Also, if you look at the bottom of the page you get at the link provided by RKRPCA it says:

This "Behavioral Code of Conduct" is not intended to deprive any person of their applicable civil rights or liberties under the law.

Isn't the RKBA a "civil right or liberty"? So, and I am not a lawyer and my advice is worth what you paid for it, does this mean that if you are legal you can CC anyway?

Do any signs that forbid CCW have any legal status in NC? If not then if I went there I would carry anyway and if stopped I would quote that part of their "Behavioral Code of Conduct" stating that CCWing is a Civil Right.
