I'm in a hurry, so I'm not going to be quoting the whole article like I usually do, but the media is reporting that the recent bank robbery involved two "assault rifles." Does anyone have more information at this point? Is it even worth correcting this kind of stuff anymore via an email, or...

I'm a bit dejected again. :banghead:

Maybe some of the LEOs here on the board can answer these questions.

Do they teach you to keep your finger off the trigger and outside the guard during these types of situations?

What was the agents finger doing on the trigger while the gun was pointed at his colleague? This in turn begs the question why was the gun pointed at his colleague in the first place?

This is just sad all the way around. I feel horrible for the family of the deceased and the poor guy who killed his fellow agent, it just sucks.

It really doesn't matter since they it appears that they (AK's) were never fired....the news is now reporting that the FBI Agent was killed by Friendly Fire......

Why do I highly doubt they were fully automatic AK's?

I don't know. There are and has always been a a black market of class III weapons. Maybe they "plotted" this "masterplan" for months and invested in the weapons.

The weapons could have been automatic if:

1) Illegal balck market imports (most unlikley)
2) Stolen from a legit owner in a Class III state (by them or someone who sold them)
3) Monkeyed Semi-automatics. I understand it possible to do this on a stamp reciever AK with the proper parts to switch out. Though I have no idea how hard it is or how effective.

Note to FBI: Don;t sweep your partner with the muzzle! This is why!

Hello!?

I'd also bet that the robbers get a stiffer scentence because it "resulted in the death of an FBI agent" even though he was killed by another FBI AGENT!

I think SOMEONE got over zealous......

It's easy to sweep your partner with the muzzle if he walks in front of you. I'm not saying training couldn't have prevented it, but I am not going to judge unless I see video evidence. Trust no testimony.

Young Gun, this is true, but I still think they might have been Semi-Auto's, jsut for a few reasons. The conversion to full from semi is something that has always been floating around. Howevere there was a video on YouTube that a few here have linked too, California LEO is demonstrating the difference between semi-auto and how a ruger can be converted to look like a AK-47 and the like. Near the end of that video is a detective, IIRC, standing up and saying in all his years in his division, they've not once recovered a semi-auto conversion. You'd think a detective in LA or the gang unit would definately find one of these if they're as common as the Anti-Gunners lead us to believe.

Class 3 state.. Well, they're in New Jersey... A- from the Brady Bunch, New York B+...You do have the D+ State of Pennsylvania though. But here you also run into the fact that the original AWB hasn't been gone too long, limited supply. Most likely, if they were actual Full Auto AK-47's as were seen in the California Bank Robberys, they were stolen from the legal owner. I don't know how common that is for a Class III weapon to be stolen, if it is, it kinda scares me, but I'm still gonna go with the Semi-Auto. Most likely though we'll never find out, regardless of the outcome news and everyone will still call them the "evil" assault weapons... Even if they are .22's

Too true. Also I tried to find out what it does take to convert an AK to auto and it takes an extremely skilled gunsmith and some heavy duty tools. Some one that skilled would not jepordize their life and freedom to make some thugs a gun.

in the end I guess I am gonna have to say you're right about them being semi's.

No worries, it's Not a right or wrong issue ;) . I mena they could be stolen Class III's just as easily. I just try to look passed the medias bias and call them on it. (Just finally got a correction run in my local paper on the John Popper story, they said he was charged with weapons violations)

If I walk out of the house with anything remotely resembling an AK-47, it's an assault rifle. It might be a .22 firing 10/22 but because it looks like an AK it's evil... And even when faced with these facts, they ignore it because it doesn't evoke the "emotion" or the fear that the sheeple get when they hear "Assault Weapon"

In my own opinion, this is a much MUCH more dangerous looking assault weapon

I'm currently putting together a (semi-auto) AK from a Romanian parts kit.

If you wanted to make a full auto out of a semi, you would have to remove the pins holding the semi FCG in, weld over the "two hole" configuration and redrill with the "three hole" config, then install the full auto FCG. If your OK with a TIG torch and can accurately drill holes, the answer is "same as factory" effective.

My guess is that its just outside the capability of the average bonehead criminal, but its possible. I'm capable of it, but there's no way in hell I would ever do it.
