If another assault weapons ban comes into effect, will that effect ar-15 upper or lower receivers? Or Both. I was wondering because i know that they consider the lower receiver the firearm.

This time, the far left wannabee tyrants in D.C. will ban virtually anything and everything that has to do with those evil looking semi-automatic firearms, forever.

And The Great Lord Obamacus Rex The Magnificent, The One Mighty And Strong, The Most Righteous Savior Of Mankind, will sign it in a great celebratory ceremony with all left wing neo-liberals cheering wildly.

I'm no expert, but I think it is all dependent on the way the legislature is worded. There are too many variables for this question to have one answer.

At this time thier is no AWB, nobody can seculate what those in power may try to do.

If some thing happens it could & will affect ALL guns.

This. Asking what any possible Assault Weapons Ban bill will include is like who will win the Superbowl in 2016. We have absolutely no way of knowing, and won't until it happens.

Well, we can look at bills introduced in Congress. Some are introduced every session, and some have been introduced already in this session. We can follow their progress in committee. So far, so good.

Lets not "wait to see". Lets burn down those phone lines when the time comes.

There is no reason why these efforts cannot be blunted or stopped with a concerted effort by gun owners.

There are a lot of pro-gun Democrats who represent the non-urban areas.

I suspect most bills will die in committee because nobody wants to deal with the issue......it's pretty much lose/lose for all but the city politicians....and I think even some of them are reluctant to open that can of worms.

The current position of the Obama administration is to renew the Clinton-era ban, BUT, they also know that that ban, as it existed, was ineffective, and will seek to change it. Look for more restrictions, not fewer.

And I wall say yet again, there's a big difference between WANTING to pass all kinds of gun laws, and actually being in a position to be able to do it. Controlling both houses does not at all ensure passage of new gun laws, and there some big brawls ahead with other issues. They want to prioritize, and choose carefully where they will make stands and use favors. Banning guns is several notches down the list. It would cause more rancor than just about any other issue.

Just to clarify

The current position is, quote

Obama and Biden would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment

They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent

To paraphrase my 5 year old nephew, "Words mean stuff".

The AWB statement is deliberately promise and content free and means there is no commitment but they can point to it and say "It's on our radar"

"Those who ignore the past are doomed to repeat it," George Santayana.
The citizens of England and Australia thought it couldn't happen to them either.

As with any guberment in distress (current and future financial meltdown) they pick social pariahs to go after to quiet their own constituency.

We'll be an easy target for them since most of their supporters want all our weapons banned if not outright confiscated and they'll need a distraction that makes them feel good.

Really? That's funny, half of THR heard GWB say "I will sign the AWB renewal if it arrives at my desk", and swiftly said "he doesn't mean that, he's just posturing because he knows it will never come to him!"

I don't doubt that Obama and Biden personally support stricter gun laws. However, so long as we can maintain a mature and educated stance against such laws, and make it clear how those decisions will affect our millions of votes, then we're sitting about as well as we can.

Ideally, various Dems who get funding and votes from anti-gun folks will trumpet their opposition to the skies, it'll fail to get the needed votes, and everyone wins. Anti-gun reps can say "well gee folks, you see I did my best" and pro-gun reps (or at least ones who get pro-gun votes) can say "look at all the good work I did blocking that bill!"

A lot of this junk is theatre, and flying off the handle about it won't help anyone. Likewise, idle speculation for anything more than fun is probably ill-advised.

And, of course, making fun of elected leaders is just as petty as the eight years of "Bu$Hitler" rhetoric from leftist teenagers, so it's disappointing to see all this name-calling here. If you don't like the guy, state your opposition to his policies, and better yet call your elected reps about it. Saying "he's a stupid communist with big ears and he probably is going to ban guns because he hates John Wayne and everything Americans stand for" just confirms the stereotype of gunowners as dumb hicks.

Since nothing is on the table, there is no way that any of us can know the answer to this or any other question about a ban. You might as well ask us "If a leprechaun were to jump out of my box of lucky charms, would he land on his right foot or his left". Nobody knows, because we can't see the future. Anybody who claims to know is trying to sell you something.

The antis' favored legislation is something along the lines of H.R.1022, which would indeed ban upper receivers, parts, etc., and reduce the number of allowable "evil features" to zero.
