Hey guys, The girlfriend and I have been looking to move next may and are leaning towards Denver. We probably wont be living in denver, but a suburb. Would I be able to own a AR-15 in Lakewood/Highlands Ranch/Parker? or is that still considered 'denver'. I've been reading some laws and statutes but can't really make sense of some of it. Are bayonets banned too? I was going to purchase a rifle and instead of choosing between ar/ak, will I be able to own an SKS with a bayonet? I JUST found out about the awb...lame-o.:what:

Please offer any insight you have. Im open to opinions on good places to move (both will be fresh out of college), places to avoid at night, and places to shoot :).

We try to stay away from the misused phrase "Assualt Weapons."

Denver seems to have much stricter gun restrictions than most other parts of Colorado. As jlbraun pointed out, open carry is illegal in Denver, but no the state of Colorado.

That will give you carry info on the state of Colorado.

Class III weapons (silencers, MGs, etc) are legal to register there as well.

well,

I used to live in Lakewood and had enough "assault weapons" to... well, assault a lot of things. No problem.

Denver means the actual town of Denver. There they drink whackyjuice and think laws dont apply to them. I have heard that the cops can get cranky in Denver when you lawfully own an assault weapon. Might not be good to be the test case.

Also, you will get cop attention if you attempt to open carry in Denver, but not anywhere else.... even in Boulder, oddly enough.

As long as you don't have a Denver address, you are fine. Let's go shooting!

Recently moved away from the Denver area (Golden), sob :( ...

Stay out of Denver, Highlands Ranch, and at least some parts of Parker.

If you want to be comfortable, as far as firearms are concerned, Jefferson County, Teller, El Paso (!), Elbert and Weld County are your best bets in the area. There are other counties thereabouts that have a mix of laws; Denver city/county has the worst.

In general, Colorado has pretty fair gun laws. Enjoy them while you can.
