assembly screw up

I was cleaning my new VP9 and went and put the slide on without the barrel and spring in the slide. I was watching a movie and not paying attention. Figured I have done this so many times I could do it in my sleep. So not true.When I push the slide forward to remove it I can fell spring tension and the slide will not go forward to come of. Looking for help please I really hate to call HK

Some on the HK forum suggested pulling the trigger -already tried others said downward pressure on the rear of the slide as I push forward -tried it also
 
I wonder what would have happened if you just pulled harder?

I can't beleive any modern gun would lock up to the point you couldn't jerk the slide off without harming a thing.
