Assume 30 Rnd Mag and AR15 did not exist

If the AR-15 and 30-round mags didn't exist, there would still be plenty of firearms to fill the void. Almost every firearm design ever conceived was as a weapon of war. Practical repeating rifles have been around since the Civil War, over 150 years ago. Semi-automatics have been around over 100 years. Two world wars were fought largely with five-shot bolt actions. Taking ARs and magazines out of play would have just meant the "antis" would turn their sights (pun intended) elsewhere.

....Look at NY to see the answer. If one begins with an unshakeable assumption that guns cause violence, then whatever guns are extant must be the cause of violence. If you take away the ARs and nothing happens to crime or murder rates, well, then, it must mean we haven't taken away enough guns!

Yes because their goal is to ban guns.

Yes they would of used different guns.

The main points, ^^.

I heard a bit on the radio the other day, one of the banner politicos was arguing with another non banner. The non banner asked if he knew that rifles were only used in 2.5% of homicides, the banner said "I dont care!....we need to ban them!" The non banner said that the guy has made his point for him. They don't care about any type, its just a stepped progression. When a ban on one type fails to change the picture, and it will fail to change things, then they will want more types, period. Many may not recall being able to mail order a gun in the 60's. There were several assaniations, so they 'had to do something". It didnt change anything. They've wanted SNIPER RIFLES (anything with a scope), they've wanted "saturday night specials", they've wanted handguns, they've wanted "dum-dum ammo" (any expanding bullet), they've wanted (and got) so called "cop killer bullets" (which was a total farce in actual fact, as no cops had been killed by them, and the company that made them only sold them to law enforcement and military).

When people say words like "slippery slope" and "its only the beginning", pay attention. Even if you have zero interest in self loading rifles, give them up, and your personal favorites WILL be on the list at some point. Notice that they have mentioned several instances as examples of why assault rifles need to be banned, and none were used.

It isn't about guns, it's about control. Hear that enough times and maybe it will sink in with some folks. It's true.

Bans are basically failure from their inception. The law bans drugs, it hasn't slowed the flow down. If gang bangers want guns, they will get them, the law notwithstanding. The import network already exists.

There were essentially no AR based rifles nor their 30 round mags in the hands of civilians when the rabid screamers pushed the Gun Control Act of 1968 through.

So, yeah, since if the firearm did not exist, the turds in society would use another form of firearm to commit high profile crime and then many other forms of firearm would be swept into the lunacy to protect us.

The AR and it's cousins are just the current target for folk already and constantly taking aim at the Second Amendment.

My 20 rounders and Beta-mags work fine too.

Also

-The worst mass shooting was Virginia Tech. Done with 10 round mags. 32 dead, 17 more injured.

-Son of Sam shot 15, 6 dead. Six shot revolver.

-Sept 11, 2001. 3200 Americans killed. No shots fired. Razor blades and plane tickets.

In fact, I believe Son of Sam used a five-shot revolver (a CA Bulldog), which makes your case even more.

The banners would be looking a military style bolt guns to be banned. If my history is correct the Lee Enfield had a very impressive rate of fire. The Brits called it the mad minute 30 aimed shots at a target 200 yds away. Pretty impressive even by today standards. And don't forget your lever action in center fire cartridges 7 - 10 rounds as fas as you can work the lever.

They'd be calling for a ban on handguns, which some are still doing despite the Macdonald and Heller rulings.

After that, they'd be calling for a ban on rifles that are "too accurate". I saw that years ago.

This isn't about any particular type of gun. It's about a government monopoly on the means of armed force and their desire to see the public reduced to disarmed serfs.

There have been bans and calls for bans since before my time and I have been around awhile. JFK's death resulted in the ban on mailorder guns. RFK's death and the Reagan'-Brady shootings resulted in a vigorous attempt to ban handguns. They just keep on trying.

Most of us here will agree.
A nutcase bent on doing hurt can REALLy raise Cain with a Military Style Bolt Gun.
BUT the Politicos ,whose MAIN goal is their own agenda, can't gain politically by banning an issue Springfield.
We have REALLY hurt the Feinstein,Palosi types because of the EXPLOSIVE nature of the Gun Discussion which has REALLY upset Congressional roles in the past.
The Congressional Control is the REAL issue and NOT children being massacred by a neglected Nutcase

It`s been a while since I read this section of the Bible, but didn`t Cain kill Abel with an evil black semi auto rifle with a high capacity magazine ?
Didn`t Samson kill 10,000 with his AK 47? No wait, if I recall correctly, the Book said he used the jawbone of an ass.
And to this very day politicians are STILL slaying millions of people with that most dangreous weapon of all, the dreaded jawbone of an ass !

Post #3 pretty much said it all.

All of the anti-AR sentiment is invented. Imagine if all they had were turn of the century guns. Evil 'saddle guns' that have a capacity as high as *gasp* 18 rounds. Or the evil 1917 Enfield that has a tactical 'ladder sight' marked to shoot out to 1700 yards, which enables the shooter to assassinate anyone at will and never be detected. It even has an extra round, because it was originally built for a rimmed cartridge, and later converted to rimless. It has been modified to accept more rounds than originally designed, and this gives the shooter a deadly advantage when being confronted.

Nothing new here.

I know we always hear razor blades, but I thought it was these.

The blade on this does extend out to an alarming length if you aren't paying attention when you're using it.

Don't forget rental trucks full of fertilizer and kerosene.

But the most dangerous weapon that we need to take away from politicians is the pen.

if politicians really wanted to reduce gun violence in this country they could slash it at least in half within 12 months -- just legalize and regulate the street drug industry. Tax the hell out of it, make government subsidized drug treatment and educations programs easily available with said tax revenue, and lets the Crips, Bloods, MS13 and all the rest get reduced to stealing hubcaps and car stereos...

No, tax it reasonably or you leave the incentive for the criminal element. This is one area where you do want the monopoly power of the government to destroy the market forces.

If you tax it onerously then the market will develop a channel to skim that excess.

If semi-automatic rifles and handguns did not exist, the gun control group would be trying to ban or severely restrict everything just like now. They just haven't gotten there yet like England or Australia.

Indeed...They've been selling "U.K.-specific" non-locking folding knives for a while now, because unless it's job-related, you can't carry a locking folder in the U.K.

We also remember U.K. bureaucrats requesting that Amazon-U.K. suspend importation of such "weaponized" implements as baseball bats and axe handles into the U.K.

If this is not a lesson to us all that "progressives" will not stop at XYZ-gun or XYZ-magazine -- I don't know what is.
