Picked this Astra .44 Mag up Monday. I am anxious to try it out. Needs a bit of cleaning. Anybody else out there have one?

Nice looking gun ! I have one that is via Lew Horton,
from the 1980's. It has a two inch barrel and is in blue
steel. Wonderful to shoot with 44spl and quite exciting
with 240gr 44mag and carries well in a Galco Jackass
shoulder rig. What holster set up do you use ? :D

I don't have one, but a friend with lots of S&W's had one, and he was very pleased with it compared to his much more expensive S&Ws. His experience made me think if I ran across one as cheaply as they sometimes go, I'd pick one up. Let us know how it shoots when you wring it out at the range...

I have neglected reporting in with target pics, and still don't have any.

I decided to break it down and give it a good cleaning since I had no idea how long it had been or how well it had been taken care of. It wasn't filthy, but it wasn't real clean either.

I really like this gun. It feels good in my hand and balances well. The single action is very nice and the double action is very, very good, and it has seems to be very accurate. It is going to be my dedicated ".44 Spl shooting" .44 mag gun. I much prefer to shoot full load .44's in my Redhawk as I am no fan of recoil.

I gave everything a good cleaning, knocked off a couple of sharp edges, and put it all back together. Some of the innards look like Colt (Hammer) and some look like S&W, while some seem unique to Astra (there is a moon shaped piece in there that is not visible, hooking the trigger to the piece holding the trigger spring), as far as my limited knowledge goes.

I have shot a few .44 Mags through it, and a couple of different .44 Spl loads. Light .44 Spl's in it is like a popcorn fart. Full load .44 Spl's are still quite pleasant.

I just piddled around, watched football, and cleaned guns today, but I promise a good range report one of these days. :)

Football and cleaning guns sounds like a decent day to me too.

And baseball to top it off tonight! Cardinals and Cubs. :D

If it will quit frickin raining here, I'll go to the range one day next week after work. That's the plan anyway.

Do a search, IIRC another member has one and has posted about it. I have a Llama .44mag. Look under your grip. There is an adjustment ring that the mainspring and housing can be placed in differnt postions to alter the trigger pull.

Pachmayr made grips for these but they will be hard to find I'd think.

That is correct. It is on the "weakest" setting, but still hits primers just fine. I shot it with some .44 Secials today. The AA #2 load showed a lot of promise.

Are you remembering this thread? It is the one that got me interested in the Astra. I kept an eye out for one for quite a while.
