They are single action. They came in .25 or .22 Short and there was also a combo package that came with a different mag, barrel, and slide. They are made by Astra and Colt had their name put on it for those sold under the Colt banner.
They are not safe to carry with a rd in the chamber and the hammer down as the firing pin is long enough that it rests against the primer or rim.
They do have a rotating safety on the left side. It also locks the slide back. I don't remember now if that blocks the trigger or just what it does engage. However, every one I've seen the safety wasn't real stiff and if carrying in a pocket could easily wipe off.
They also have the magazine disconnect so when the mag is removed the gun won't fire.
I gave $25 for this one (.22 Short) in 1969. Got 2 mags and the box. Even in .22 Short they have more kick than you'd think. Definitely not punishing or harsh.
