My "go-to" rifle is an M1 Garand, and I've spent a while trying to find some sort of gear for holding its en bloc clips that's newer than WWII. Well I finally found it.
Comp-Tac has just started making a belt-mounted holder for an M1 clip. They're not on CT's web site yet, but they are available is you call CT on the phone. The guy I spoke to said that they designed them as a custom order for John Farnam, but they've been selling a lot to other people (as of yesterday, they'd sold about two dozen, despite having no advertising and only having them available for a little over a week).
Anyway, they look a bit odd out of the box, but work fantastically. Clips are held very securely, but virtually jump into your hand when you pull them out. The holder itself also sits in place on your belt, and doesn't wander around as you move (like some gear does). The holders work equally well with clips of either .308 or .30-06 (I tested both sizes of cartidge in mine).
The holder can slip onto your belt without having to take the belt off, which is handy for either adjusting your ammo loadout for different stages at a match or for grabbing an extra clip of ammo when something goes bump in the night.
Price on these things is $25 plus shipping, and they are worth every penny of it. Nothing else on the market even comes close.
