At ranges less than 50 yards, is there a difference in 5.56mm v. 7.62x39?

I'm not sure if you have seen this site, if not you might enjoy it.

In my own experience I have been surprised at what a .223 will penetrate after hearing so much about what it will not penetrate. One was some guys shooting a computer with AK's rocking the computer all over. I shot the hard drive, the computer with a .223, the computer didn't move and the bullet went through. Then I've seen rounds penetrate trees I though it would not.
Unfortunately, Box o'Truth has yet to do any realistic .223 and 7.62x39mm JHP tests, at least that I've seen. The only .223 on there that I'm aware of is FMJ, which of course penetrates like all FMJ does.

Like I said upthread, .223 penetrates metal and Kevlar, which are both velocity sensitive, pretty well. Where .223 JHP penetrates less is in stuff that makes it fragment, like drywall, gelatin, water jugs, and what have you.

Of course there's a difference!!

The 5.56 is gonna get there faster:Dlol!!
All joking aside, bullet placement will be more important than the round chosen. I'll take 55gr M193 over most options out there, and aim at whatever is exposed since neither 5.56 or 7.62 are great penetrators of cover.

Which state allows rifle rounds except 7.62x39mm? I am aware of two caliber restrictions: some states do not allow any .22 rifles for deer, and I know of at least one state that requires over .24. There may be some state that allows rifles for deer, but doesn't allow 7.62x39mm, but I am not aware of it.

Now, if you were just trying to make the point that not all states allow rifles for deer hunting, you could have been a little less obtuse.

So, basically, you're being contrary for contrariness' sake. Brilliant.

I was just setting the record straight. If he cared enough to ask for an explanation he would have gotten one in detail. But, if nothing else, his incorrect statement was challenged.
