At what point is it considered "getting carried away" with CCW?

I carry a 1911 .45 caliber, IWB with an extra mag on my weak side. It goes everywhere I go. A friend of mine who knows I carry said I'm paranoid and that I've gotten carried away with the concealed carry thing. Anybody else feel like me, and that I haven't gotten carried away?

There are bad guys everywhere! Its not that you are paranoid (that high school bully still LIVES) but are you paranoid enough? CCW in schools today, protect our youth!

Carried away is like the other day, when I found myself at the Falls Shopping Mall, with a 3 Inch Model 60 worn cross draw, a Taurus 85CH in my pocket, and a Commander just behind the right hip, IWB.

I did not feel like anything was overdone. :what:

Man I thought you were going to say that you had 10+ firearms on your person, several surfires, multiple knives, OC, 20 extra mags, battons, tasers, etc.

I was hoping to see a picture.

David Park, somebody needs to find that mall security guard some professional help!

number6,

No, that's not paranoid at all. That's actually middle-of the road, or even on the conservative side--only one spare magazine?:)

"Paranoid" means you think everyone is out to get you. Some people confuse simple preparedness with paranoia.

I have a fire extinguisher in my kitchen, in the garage, and in the bedroom. I have smoke detectors covering all parts of the house, and a CO detector in the garage. I even have an extinguisher in my wife's van. Am I paranoid about fire? No, just prepared. Paranoid would be eating food cold because I was afraid we'd start a fire by cooking, living in the dark because I was afraid of electrical fires and didn't use lights, etc.

You're paranoid if fear of criminals, or terrorists, or fire, or whatever, controls you and drives you to take irrational measures. Simply choosing to discreetly carry a firearm that you are proficient with is entirely rational. (Otherwise, why would LEO's carry on the job?)

David, no fair trotting out the "mall ninja"!

I recall that once I took my dog on our nightly walk, while packing
G23 and extra mag
P11 and mag
Surefire 6P
Carrying some type of large folder, maybe a Spyderco Native II

I think I also had my P32, and
was wearing my Level II SBA. :D

The whole time, I was hoping fervently that I didn't run into any trouble, 'cause I didn't really want to get caught with all that on person (legal though it was). :uhoh: Never did that again. I carry about 3x that much battle gear now, though!

The only way one can be carried aways with his/her CCW is for everyone at a party to know you are carrying. If nobody knows you are carrying then you aren't being carried away.

I still have friends that *think* I might be carrying a gun.

Nobody could ever call me paranoid because I've already made the local news TWICE for people trying to kill me.

:cuss:

Geez...you were making me start to worry there for a minute...about myself...

I don't leave the house without at least having a handgun in my bag or IWB...even if it's going to the (national chain grocery) store for milk and bread in the middle of the day..granted, that store also has a branch bank inside and 2 in the parking lot, 2 of which have been robbed during the last year. I ALWAYS carry if I'm just running to the Stop-and-Rob in the middle of the night to get a pouch of chewing tobacco from the frightened clerk through the armored drawer in the front window (BTW, they're always happy to see me).

And I live in a good North Dallas neighborhood.

You're not being paranoid or 'overly carried away'. Not by a long shot. If you were, you'd never leave the house. I agree with the 'spare tire' analog. It's just having it on hand in case you need it. I don't fuss over extra mags or a light. I do carry an extra mag in my bag, just because I have the room for it. I might from time to time have a full extra box of ammo in the truck but that's more a factor of forgetting to bring it into the house than anything.

Regards,
Rabbit.

"When you install the modified primer cup in your Glock 17 so you can carry and use it in the swimming pool." :D

Looks like you need a NAA Mini Mag, Carry all the time, you don't wear your seat belt only on Monday's....do you..

One 1911 and a spare mag?

That's light carry for some people.

Paranoid is the Colt Commando with an M203 grenade launcher.
