At Whitehouse.gov...

I'm as much in favor of speaking up for our rights as the next guy. I have a hard time, though, thinking of anything good that could come from 25,000+ people signing this petition. The president is already on the record as favoring an AWB--and btw, if you weren't around in 1994, you should look up the AWB and see just exactly how it declared a rifle to be an assault weapon, in addition to the list of specific firearms.

When a bill comes up, it will be in the news, so then write your congressman and senators. Signing this petition at the White House, will just give the liberals a list of 25,000 "gun nuts". It will probably also get you on a list of potentially dangerous people. If you've already signed, watch and see if there's not a black Suburban passing your house once a week from now on!

A better idea is to just get on the whitehouse.gov email list for several pertinent topics. That will just identify you as a concerned citizen, and getting the emails gives you an idea what kind of things the president is likely to be supporting.

Uh. Last time I bought a firearm, I had to provide a lot of personal information which was subsequently verified as 'safe for sale' by a government agency. I think they already have me on whatever list exists.

Is this petition efficacious? Probably not. That doesn't make it a bad thing, though.

Your tin foil is a little tight.

You have to keep them snug... Otherwise, they shift around when you move and it can be pointy and uncomfortable.

so what some of you are saying is." it,s a waste of time, it won,t do anygood. and on and on".. guess going to vote was a waste of time too? we didn,t get anything or see any change, but we got off our arses and did it. far as "them" having our names and address, do you really think the files from the instant background check are dumped? once something is on a hard drive, it is immortal.
if your scared, say your scared and go back to playing blank opps and let the grown ups handle this

If the White House gets flooded with names the word will get around. This may or may not affect what they're plans are, but it will give our side an opportunity to expose how big the opposition is, and that could make a difference.

BUT ONLY IF EVERYONE GETS ABOARD!!!

The Founding Fathers of this country faced a far, far greater risk then we will, and didn't hesitate. Those who are faint of heart today should take the time to read the Declaration of Independence.

Spread via social media. 2 minutes ago.

Already seen several of my friends, coworkers sign. News travels at the speed of light now. :)

Is this different from rescinding your citizenship? Which is in the bottom of the form when purchasing a new firearm.

I know being signed onto the "list" will show up on a government security clearance type background check.

Please be serious about signing this and not just throwing a tantrum over your guy not winning.

There may be more homeland security ramifications involved also

Are you, perhaps, getting this confused with another, more notorious petition circulating?

This is about saying "NO" to an assault weapons ban. How in the hell does this matter WHICH guy won? Last I checked... BOTH candidates deserve a good smack over the AWB topic. :)

These Whitehouse.gov petitions carry ZERO credibility and are merely a way for the administration to say they are listening to the people.

True, but they're also another way to have the views of a group visible to the masses.

Would you rather read a headline in a week stating:

"250,000 people signed a petition FAVORING a renewed Federal assault weapons ban"

or

"250,000 people signed a petition AGAINST a renewed Federal assault weapons ban"

???

You can bet your behind that now there's a pro-gun petition, within 24 hours the anti-gun folks will have THEIR troops mobilized to create a counter petition.

Remember!

Tinfoil hats only work if you remember to ground the system, be sure to attach a 6 foot paperclip chain to one of your pants legs.

You'll just look silly without it! ;)

Whitehouse.gov "petitions" are like writing on a public restroom wall......

moto_stevo Is this different from rescinding your citizenship? Which is in the bottom of the form when purchasing a new firearm.
Complete nonsense and absolutely false.
How did you answer Question 11.f. ?:scrutiny:

The only "masses" that read, initiate or sign these online Whitehouse.gov petitions are those silly enough to believe they carry any weight whatsoever. 20,000,000 signatures on a Whitehouse.gov "petition" means as much as 20,000,000 "likes" on facebook.........it means nothing.

You want the views of a group visible to the masses? Buy radio spots, elect representatives with your ideals or contribute to the NRA Legislative Fund.

Frankly I wouldn't care one way or the other........signing a petition means absolutely nothing. The Brady Campaign has become a laughingstock because of their polls, opinion surveys and petitions.

Popularity contests do not influence political agendas....votes do.

Hey guys. Just kidding about the "black Suburban" (although I have been approached by the Secret Service--for taking pictures of a particular building, where it turned out I was OK, and they did get out of a black Suburban.) The FBI background check is an official registration subject to security and limited access. A petition at whitehouse.gov is a different matter. The president's minions and gun hating friends don't have access to the FBI files, but they might to the "petition files".

I say again, you sign the petition, to the people who read it, you are just another gun nut. You call your congressman when the bill comes up, and you are a constituent. AWB will be back in some form, so we need to be ready, but the place to deal with it is the congress. The president may not have any more elections to worry about, but the congress does.

And watch out, Tom Gresham says Diane Feinstein is pushing for not only a ban on new AWs, but also a confiscation of existing black rifles.

If you want to be a member of the "Me too!" generation, sign the petition.

Want to be an individual with independent thoughts and views.

Write a letter to the President of the United States of America. Put a stamp on it and send directly to the President.

I'm not saying the letter will definitely be read by the President. It does have a higher chance of making a difference than if you are #14,962 on that petition.

RedAlert.

Not just "write" HANDWRITTEN. Put the effort into legibility without a spellchecker... It really does add to the aura of power the paper has.

Took me an hour or so, and that's with a main hand that had the bones split lengthwise, and the tissues exploded like grapes. (long time ago, as healed as it gets)

Also to your Senator and Congressman, state reps, mayors, city council... avoiding buzzwords and insults,

Signing the WH petition doesn't HURT though for those with less gumption.

You're right....

But why not do both? While some hits are bigger then others, two (or more) are better then one.
