ATF Shotgun Ban Plans Killed

So hopefully this will bring the prices of the Saiga 12s back down to earth. I wanted one a year ago at $450, didn't buy, then they went north of $800! Saw them come down recently to $650, but still overpriced...

Sounds like that UTS 15 shotgun will be able to be imported then. Or did I read that wrong?

I'm pretty sure this just means that nothing is changing:

(1) all other requirements of law with respect to the proposed importation are met; and

The "sporting" requirements will still need to be met. I believe this means Saigas still need to come in sans pistol grips.

Part of the quoted portion mentions

"no application for the importation of such model of shotgun, in the same configuration, had been denied by the Attorney General prior to January 1, 2011..."

So it only applies to shotguns which were not deemed unsporting prior to 2011. If it was allowed in 2010 then it cannot be deemed unsporting. However it does not apply to anything new.
This means anything not already legally imported and considered sporting can still be deemed unsporting.
It clearly applies primarily to the Saiga shotguns.

Thanks for posting this, Doc.

It seems to me that this is a good stopgap measure and one that is a pretty clear victory for us, even if it isn't perfect.

Still, it seems to me that the ATFE might have trouble getting even new designs declared to be "unsporting" so long as they don't deviate too far from what's already out there.
