Revolver in Readen Metal.. Probably!! Like what, an N Frame?

Hmm.. She probably knows how to shoot a .50Cal, you know, gotta defend her trains right?

But ol' Horsey-face as Dagny?

Hey! Watch how you insult horses!!

I agree, she wasn't the best author but not nearly as bad as Golgo suggests. I liked the book anyhow.

I truly hope they never make the movie. They would butcher it. They couldn't help but butcher it.

WHAT _DOES_ Dagney Taggart pack? I will go ahead and assume she has a CCW.

Why would you assume that she'd seek the permission of the looters to defend herself? I can see someone asking that question of her, and her paraphrase of Howard Roark as a reply:

"You want to carry a concealed weapon? Who on earth will let you?"

"That's not the point. The point is: who will stop me?"

Agree with Golgo. Enjoyed the philosophy, got bored during most of her stuff. I really don't need three paragraphs telling me about how nice the candle stick holders were. :) Or 200 pages telling me how under appreciated Rourk was as an architect.

And another thing. Any Rand fans who are excited about hollywood making this movie, I've got 2 words for you: STARSHIP TROOPERS. :p

Well, if they do make Atlas into a movie (or series of movies), my vote for Dagny would go to Catherine McCormack (of Braveheart and Dangerous Beauty, among others).

I would almost certainly butcher the book, though.

As for Galt, I would nominate Patrick McGoohan, except that he's a bit too old now (is he even still alive?). "I am not a number; I am a free man!" :D

Except for his politics, Johnny Depp would make a great D'Anconia, IMO.

Who would play Ragnar?

You would have to think that S&W would come out with a J-Frame made of Readen Metal in .357.

Exactly, Starshp Troopers. If they can butcher a well written, entertaining book because they don't like the philosophy, what wouldn't they do to Rand? I mean, I LIKED Atlas Shrugged, and still thought the writting bad.

But the burning question is, who plays Ellsworth Toohey?

Unfortunately, Ford's a gun hater

Basically, the way I see it, if it was going to be made into a movie "intact"..

12 hours, split into 6 parts, done by 100% non-hollywood people..

But then, who would go see the movie???

OK, now THAT's funny :D

Now, if someone did it with Anime pictures.... and Galt's Gulch was really a spaceship called Superdimensional Fortress Galt -1....

Somehow I can't figure out which one is more over rated Rand or Roberts?

I have really tried to read Atlas Shrugged. Tried a half dozen times over the past 30 years. Never got deeper than a hundred pages or so; it might have made a great 30,000 word novella but Rand got carried away.

Miranda Otto as Dagny.

Quick! Someone give my blank brain a prod and name the producer/director/whatever who made "Red Dawn" He could be trusted to keep as much original intent in such a movie, if anyone could.

This is not an uncommon observation. Rand's prose is so turgid and overly self important that it makes a mediocre writer like Jeff Cooper look like a sage.

That's what I thought when I saw the title of this topic.

Hollywood can ruin even the best source material and turn it into pure drivel. The Lord of the Rings trilogy was only saved by Hollywood's almost complete non-involvement with its content, and Hollywood has made a point to snub the movie as much as they can get away with it.

Consider this: Hollywood couldn't turn a sleek, fast-paced little book like "Starship Troopers" into a competent action flick, let alone a faithful film adaptation. They also couldn't resist making a mockery of Heinlein's ideas, because they contradicted the self-satisfied, flacid "limo leftism" of the movie's producers.

It is also hard to imagine Julia Roberts conveying deep ideas, when her head has never actually contained any. :neener:

Well... ignoring the naysayers... I've read every classic there is to read (usually in the original language no less) and still like Rand and Cooper.

No one has mentioned Mel Gibson yet. He seems to be on a pro-freedom bent these days.

Rand refused to give up final veto power over any movie made from Atlas, this is why it was not produced by Al Ruddy (who produced a small movie called The Godfather perhaps you've heard of it?), who apparently liked the book enough to try and produce it again in 2000.

Starship troopers..

:fire: :cuss:

I thought the movie was ok, UNTIL I READ THE BOOK. I asked myself:

What the ....?? The movie is adapted from _THIS_ book?? are you SURE??:banghead:

Loved the book..

Atlas Shrugged.. To make it more successful, I agree, we need to get out the reader's digest version..

Books on Tape has it.. I think it's a 58 hour marathon..

Mel Gibson? As John Galt?

I still say Andy Garcia as Franco..

Connery as Rearden is not a bad thought..
