Hi,

Is there an easy, inexpensive way to attach a sling swivel to the barrel rather than the for-end of the stock? If the barrel is fully floated, with little to no support from the stock, would this be a good idea?

The rifle is a Swiss K31 with a cut down stock. If I could attach a swivel to the side of the barrel, I could utilize the existing sling attachment on the side of the butt-stock.

Thanks for the help,
Jason

The very easiest thing to do is make your own leather sling just to carry the gun with. It will not work for wrapping your arm to shoot, but I use this sling for carrying guns that don't have slings for shooting with. Like shot guns.

Slit the leather near the ends, and simply pull the leather thru the slit...

I understand you would like to use a sling mount already on the gun, so you can use that and make a leather loop around the barrel, but with a floating stock still you can't realy use the sling for support, as it is likek to place your shots off..

Actually, I made it better. It had a non-matching stock, and the barrel was angled upward enough to be putting pressure on the hand-guard. Since it wasn't matching anyway, and was a poor fit, I cut the stock down in order to eliminate the hand-guard and floated the barrel.

I would never have done this to a matching K31.

Put a wood-screw type sling swivel stud in the front of the wood forearm.
Then you can use a detachable sling-swivel and have the sling come off the side.

That will not put pressure on a free-floated barrel, so you can use the sling for shooting.

Being on the front end of the stock, the swivel will be out of the way of your support hand, and will not hit it during recoil.
