Attention machinists and tinkers: Help me with a custom project.

I noticed that in another message "el_rojo" stated that he could only get 9 rounds in after the modification. I too had this problem, what I did was cut a thread or two off the the top of each screw with a dremel to "flatten" the screw and allow the 10 rounds to properly fit and allow the bolt to move forward and chamber round 1 of 10 smoothly. I made sure I didnt cut too much at a time, as I wanted the screws to still grab as much of the reciever as possible. Hopefully I can go out to the range tomorrow and find out if the mod, worked and load 10rnds. I noticed that in the picture I neglected to reinsert the bottom plate on the magazine, I do have it though and it looks even nicer in place. now to figure out what kinds of things to store inside it.

Actually Cvela, my 10 vs. 9 round problem existed before I added the "extra storage" compartment. Before I ever modified the firearm, it would not take 10 rounds and still load. I wonder if my gun is just defective? Oh well. I don't mind just 9 in the magazine.

By the way your FAB-10 looks much better!

Heres an updated picture with the magwell sealed up. I have yet to go out to the range to make sure my modification will allow the 10rnds to feed properly though. Lets hope next week is better.

Welcome Scorpion. I hope you stick around. This is a good place to hang out. I went and posted at Calguns too. It is sort of funny that there are so many of us out there who just want to have it look like a real gun, even though it is neutered. Oh well. Good times.

Some day I might fix the 20 rounder. Actually, I found out when I got my SU-16 that it isn't a 20 rounder, but a 10 rounder that looks like a 20 rounder. So I didn't break the law afterall! Prior to that I had no reason to load it up.

Thanks and the M4 SOPMOD has always been my favorite, that's why I made the fake mag. It just doesn't look right without the 30 rounder. The Fab10 folks should've put the fake mag or should've thought about the ability to add a fake mag in the first place. But it was fun modding it and it definitely worth it even if the warranty is voided.

I've just known about the SU-16 recently and I know that it only have detachable 10rnd mag (that is CA legal), but it never appeals to me.

For me the Fab10 AR is pretty much a novelty weapon, one that makes me feel good modding it, looking at it, holding it, shooting it, not so much about practical or tactical. For practical and tactical shooting I have other weapons in my collection that can fill up the role quite well, M1 Garand, M1a NM, Mini-30, shotgun, handguns just to name a few. But I wouldn't give up my Fab10 AR for anything.

I would happily give mine up for a real AR (or two!). But that is just me.

Yeah the SU-16 is alright. I like it ok. It mainly just gives me a reason to use all of those 30 round magazines I bought before the ban, back when I didn't have a gun to put them in.
