I received an e-mail from a friend regarding a proposal in Governor Pataki's new budget to include new pistol/handgun license fees and to require that all applicants renew their license (and pay a fee) every five years..

It's time to contact your elected officials...

" enhance public safety" by taking our money , where have I heard that before ? PA does it cheaper than that . How about making all permits unrestricted like mine ?

How about its already difficult and expensive enough to obtain a pistol permit in NY, and restricted enough by not practising ANY form of reciprocity like every other state in the country does.

This is the last thing this state needs.

Would that law affect all current permits as well? Because being that they were issued for lifetime validation, wouldn't they need to be grandfathered, making the law only effective for new permits?

DO you know where I can find more info on this proposal, because I certainly would invest the time to write to my government officials.

Everyones old permit will be converted and have to be renewed.

These permits are for possession not just carry, so revoking them is the same as confiscation.

A statewide database will lead to confiscation.

Write, call and visit your representatives.

Let me see if I understand this: The State of NY is angling to impose a $100 fee ON TOP of whatever my county charges at renewal time?

Granted, right now my county doesn't charge that much for a renewal, but if they can charge whatever they want, I know that in my county, where there is widespread fear and ignorance of guns, combined with the knowledge that gun-owners are not well represented by any real power base, I am sure they will boost the fee by quite a bit. Hey, it'll be "free money"! And they'll be taking it from those evil gun owners anyway.

Wasn't this country founded on a revolution concerning "taxation without representation"---?

I've been looking all over but can't find any information on this. I've been checking packing.org and the new york state website, and tried google-ing it, and can't seem to verify this at all. Does anyone know anything else about this or have some links with more info? Thanks.

FirePower

look here It's under Pataki Pistol license Proposal. I really wouldn't mind it if they went to a shall issue system, and made my license valid in NYC. However we all know that wont happen. It will be used to get ride of all the grandfatherd full carry permits in places like Onondaga and similar Counties though witch really stinks.

This Stinks , not only could it be more restrictive but just one more form of taxation , excuse me, fees .
