I was going to get a Fl one anyway .I have a Florida Dl as well as Ga Dl and have residesency in both states.I just don't know what would make it take 120 days. I let mine expire 5 yrs ago and had to do the whole process over and it only took about 45 days.

I did not think there was a legal way to be a resident of GA and FL at the same time. How have you managed to do this?

I didnt think GA would issue you drivers licence til you surrendered your FL license.

I own a house in fla and 2 in Ga . Florida will issue you a fla drivers license if you have residense there and one in another state and a valid license in that state for 20.00 lots of people get them you can use it for discounts at fla attractions.

No all you have to do is show proof of address like electric bill and your other state license. the only thing that is different is at the very bottom where it says in real small print "valid in fl only"

Georgia permits

Glad to hear you got yours. My son is stationed in New Orleans in the Marines. He applied back home in Georgia on a 96 hour pass and then got another pass 3 months later and was able to go home to pick up his permit. He was very pleased to get his Georgia permit since Louisiana accepts Georgia's.
I am no believer in big government but I think that a person should be able to get a permit where they live and then be legal to carry anywhere in the U.S. It's a sad commentary when honest American citizens have to jump through hoops in order to exercise their rights.

This practice is specifically addressed and made illegal by the new Real ID law that is also supposed to standardize driver's license requirements across the states for use as ID in entering/using federally controlled facilities (Federal courthouses, airports, etc.).

Farscott,
when did that become illegal?
My wife and I just had ours renewed in Fla. I don't see why it would be illegal it has the proper information on it.When we are in fla we are living there and when in ga living here. If i am hunting in ga with a resident license and have a florida DL i am going to get fined and vice versa so i need 2 sets of id's

This crap with the 120+ days for renewal with no temporary permit is out of control - I'll be contacting my State Senator to see if he can get something moving to make some changes and slap the probate court system back into compliance.

Sir, there is an organization suing to try and make this process take 60 days like the statute says. The plaintiff in the case waited 125 days before filing his lawsuit.

He lost, and the case is currently on appeal to the Georgia Court of Appeals. Here is a link to all of the relevant pleadings and briefs.

Multi sate D/Ls

I have been retired from LE in Georgia for 11 years and cannot say exactly when the laws regarding D/Ls was changed...But in Georgia it has been illegal to possess more than one state's D/L for at least since the uniform issuance of commercial licenses was created.

I actually applied for my CCW permit just yesterday in Hall County. I was told not to call in regards to the status of the permit till at least 4-5 months after application.

If I don't have my permit BY the 60th day after application, I WILL be carrying, permit be damned. I will be raising hell about it over the phone, as well. I don't think open-carrying would be good idea, but I might consider it......I don't think an officer would care about the law even if I kept the receipts and GA Code printed out in my wallet....... :fire:

I also have heard the background check generally just takes a few weeks tops, and 90% of the holdup is the stupid local politics/offices. It's not the checks folks, it's the half-*** work at the offices!

From the REAL ID law (Public Law 109-13) as approved on May 11, 2005 is the following:

d) Other Requirements.--To meet the requirements of this section, a State shall adopt the following practices in the issuance of drivers' licenses and identification cards:

(6) Refuse to issue a driver's license or identification card to a person holding a driver's license issued by another State without confirmation that the person is terminating or has terminated the driver's license.

Malum, yes they did.

I was handed the form and told to fill the entire thing out. I went through and it included my divulging my current employer, length of employment, employment location/phone number, and my social security number. Nothing was marked as " *Optional / Not Required "
