ISRA Action Alert:
KOTOWSKI & BLAGOJEVICH PLAN AMBUSH OF GUN OWNERS ON JULY 9TH

Governor Blagojevich and State Senator Dan Kotowski are planning to ambush gun owners on July 9th by calling for a special legislative session on so-called “gun violence.” It is expected that Kotowski will introduce legislation that would result in the banning and forced confiscation of most of your guns. The hope is to ramrod this legislation through the General Assembly while the public is distracted by failed budget negotiations.

Senator Kotowski is quickly establishing himself as the most dangerous anti-gunner in the nation. He is using every trick in the book to find a way to take your guns away from you. He doesn’t care if you are a hunter, target shooter, or trap shooter. He wants to take your guns away from you. He is obsessed with the notion of a gun-free Illinois. He is obsessed with the desire to humiliate you and strip you of your guns.

If you cherish your gun rights, this is what you must do:
On Monday, July 9, call your state representative and your state senator and politely tell him or her to focus on passing a budget, and to leave your guns alone. Tell the person who answers the phone that you are a law-abiding gun owner and that you are sick and tired of being blamed for the lawless deeds of criminals.

Post this information to any and all Internet bulletin boards or blogs to which you belong.

ISRA has listings of phone numbers for Illinois State Representatives and Illinois State Senators.

Remember: gun control is a disease, and you’re the cure.

I will call, but my Rep and Senator are good to go for gun owners. I would guess that after Rod's comments and actions toward especially the house members nothing he brings up will go anywhere. Jim.

I plan on making some calls in the morning. Anybody else?

Definitely early tomorrow morning!

Blag has so many people pissed I don't think he has much support for this. I think he just trying to keep his master, herr Daley happy. At least I hope so.

I will be making a few calls. I am so tired of putting up with the crap in this state. Hopefully Kotowski will not get reelected. I wonder if his constituents are angry that he is focusing more on gun control rather than other major issues in the state.

I guess it's back to the phones. I was hoping that with the budget gridlock we would have a rest from all this for a little while.

I urge everyone to call Kotowski's offices even if he is not your Senator. His actions affect everyone in the state. He should know that there will be a concentrated effort to deny his reelection. Chicago doesn't have a gun problem, it has a gang problem and I intend to ask why this isn't being addressed.

My opinion is that the response to any restrictive legislation should be massive non compliance.

I also tend to think there is not much support in the GA for this especially under the circumstances but am not taking anything for granted.

It's a bait and switch ploy by Blago.

Blago is getting hammered in the press across the state because of his demands for billions of $ in new welfare state programs in the state budget. Free healthcare, free pre school, free everything. He's not going to let the $5 Billion deficit he claims to have inherited (5 years ago) stand in the way of progress either.

Even the Chicago Dem's know the money isn't there to pay for even one of his ridiculous campaign promises.

His advisors think that forcing state legislators to vote against what they (and he) actually think is "common sense" gun control is a way to "embarrass" them in the media, who is also pro gun control. At the same time they figure it will make Blago look good on something. He has already called the budget, put out by the rest of the Democrat party in Illinois, "A radical, right wing style of government". Oh that it were only true.

That way the house and senate look like obstructionists instead of him, the guy who is always thinking of "the children" (especially the 19 year old female blond children that travel with his bodyguards to out of state events).

Already contacted my state rep and state senator, there is no way they are falling for this grandstanding crapola. I also told them to also feel free to support the most recent Dem proposal to impeach him for mismanagement.

I think Mike Madigan just wants to go into his office and hit him and two or three of his senior advisors with a shovel once or twice, just to shut them up.

He has PO'd the entire legislature so seriously that if he proposed a way to eliminate air pollution in the entire state for about $1.50, they would still vote it down just because it was his idea.

Personally, I think Madigan is going to be pissed off enough to impeach Blagojevich after this stunt.

Blagojevich threatens more special sessions

CHICAGO -- Gov. Rod Blagojevich today threatened to call "a series of special sessions" to compel lawmakers to consider gun-control measures while he and legislative leaders are deadlocked over the state budget.

His comments drew criticism from several members of the Illinois House of Representatives, who were meeting in Springfield and said the first priority should be to agree on a budget, not to take on non-budgetary issues such as gun control.

The Chicago Democrat appeared at a news conference with victims of gun violence to pressure the Illinois House to pass a Senate bill that would ban "high-capacity" ammunition clips.
The event was meant to cast House Speaker Michael Madigan, D-Chicago, in an unfavorable light.

Blagojevich has been fighting an escalating public feud with Madigan over the budget since the Democrat-controlled General Assembly failed to pass a fiscal 2008 spending plan by a May 30 deadline. Minority Republicans now have leverage in the process.

"We'll probably be there for the next several days, the next several weeks, and who knows how much longer than that," Blagojevich told a crowd gathered at Children's Memorial Hospital, which has dealt with young gunshot victims. "While we're there, we might as well take care of some other business as well.

"And so this is the beginning of a whole series of special sessions that I will be calling to take care of unfinished business," he added. "And if some legislative leaders don't want to call these bills for a vote on their own, we'll call special sessions and make them call these bills for a vote."

Rep. John Bradley, D-Marion, said on the House floor that the Blagojevich administration has not publicly mentioned gun-related legislation in months. It apparently decided to do so now "in an attempt to divide this House, to divide this caucus, to divide this state further," he said.

In a 31-26 vote in May, the Senate sent SB1007 to the House. The legislation would ban the sale and possession of ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. Critics say larger clips make semi-automatic handguns and military-style assault weapons even more deadly.

Blagojevich said he wants lawmakers to consider other gun-control measures, too, such as limiting gun purchases to one per month per person.

The governor already has called special sessions this year in an attempt to force lawmakers to deal with state finances and the budget. Many legislators balked at the governor's proposal to impose a multi-billion-dollar tax on businesses to provide medical coverage for uninsured adults; they favor a smaller-scale budget.

The governor was scheduled to meet late this afternoon with legislative leaders in Springfield.
