The Austin Rifle club has volunteered to host the first Austin Appleseed. Future events will depend upon participation. Details below:

Range: Austin Rifle Club

Address: 16312 Littig Rd, Manor, TX 78653

Website: http://www.austinrifleclub.org/

When: December 12-13 2009

Range Fee: $10.00 per person/event
Registration: http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=9932.0

Directions:
FROM AUSTIN - ALL RIGHT TURNS
From the traffic light in Manor go approx. 5 miles and turn right onto VOELKER LANE. Voelker is between the State Picnic area and the Shell station. Go down Voelker approx. 0.8 miles and turn right onto BALLERSTEDT RD. Ballerstedt dead-ends at a stop sign at LITTIG RD. Turn right onto Littig and go about 0.4 mile to the AUSTIN RIFLE CLUB RANGE. It is the first driveway you can turn right. The gate to the Education Building is the second driveway you can turn right, about 1000 feet farther uphill.

ALTERNATE ROUTE--SHORTER - Go east 3.4 miles from Manor and turn right onto Kimbro Avenue ( Old Hwy 20 ). Where Kimbro curves to the right take Littig Rd. to the left and cross the railroad tracks. Follow the tracks east on Littig for 2.4 miles (you will cross the tracks again) to the Club.

Dangit. Wish I'd known that sooner.

I gotta pay more attention, that's 2 of these I've missed because I didn't see the schedule in time. :banghead:

I forget to check the website. Grrrr, all my fault. Stay warm, it's likely to be pretty chilly :)

Sorry you can’t make this one, but there will be another Appleseed at the same place on Jan. 9-10th, 2010. We need the attendance, the range will decide based on attendance numbers if they will host more Appleseeds. I hope to see you there!

Dang! I'm an ARC member (great plinkin range plus everything else) but can't afford it. maybe in January... Everybody else have a good time and go get some barbeque in Elgin at Myers' restaurant!!

I'll miss this one. Baby is due on the 14th of January, but depending on how that looks I'll make the one in January. Could be my last trip to the range for a while.

Any good links you can guide me to. I really don't know anything about appleseeds and competitions. I shoot alot but never competed.

Here is the link to the main page for Appleseed:

Appleseed is a grassroots organization which teaches marksmanship and a respect for our American traditions and heritage. My husband and I went to our first Appleseed weekend this summer. The instructors go through the fundamentals of firing a shot (6 steps) positions, sighting, natural point of aim and much more. At the end of the day you will shoot the “Army Qualification Test”, the test has four parts (standing, sitting, prone (fast), prone (slow)). Each part is timed and the scores are added up. If you score a 210 or high you are considered a “rifleman”. There are three short breaks in which you will hear about the historical events that occurred on April 19, 1775.

I have brought out several friends who have always had problems with their groupings and shooting, every one of the guys said they had fun and thanks for bringing them out, each one improved their shooting. My husband was skeptical at first, now he will never fire from a benchrest!!

Did anyone here make the Dec. one? I'm still going to try to get to the one next weekend.

What happened to all of the Austin area Appleseeds?

Anyone got any updates to what happened to all of the Austin area Appleseeds?:fire: And where's our gun show?:cuss:

I went to the Jan 10-11th Appleseed and it was great, despite the very cold days (for these parts, anyway - it was 12 degrees both mornings when I got to the range). There were 32 shooters plus the instructors. Two made riflenman. Lots of folks from different backgrounds, with ages from 14 on up. I hope they have another one soon because I'd like to get some more people to go.

Yeah, I know they don't have any more scheduled right now. Did there used to be some, other than the two they just had? I only somewhat recently found out about Appleseed so I wouldn't know. I don't see hardly any scheduled in all of Texas to begin with, which seems odd to me with so many gun owners. Looks like only El Paso, Amarillo and Corpus have anything going on. It is a volunteer effort though.

My understanding is that Appleseed will work with any range or private property owner to provide the event on their site if they are asked. Hopefully the attendance was good enough at the last two that the range in Manor will be willing to host more of them.

To Appleseed folks and Austin range owners: Please don't let up on your efforts on account of turnout! There are many more than myself that wish they could attend these events but cannot. I did get to meet a few of your organizers at the Austin event, however. As a supporter that could not attend, my thanks to everyone involved!

Great, hopefully someone can post here when they get on the schedule. I know some people in those areas who would like to go.

Hi board, I am new just registered 1 minute ago. I am not a gun owner, but plan on getting a nice stainless flintlock caliber .50. I would like to in the interim between purchasing it, attend and meet the community. My main concern in buying this firearm is having a place to use it. I live just west of Bee Caves and am aware of the indoor range just off 71 in Oak Hill, but am looking for outdoor range. I have been to the one in Llano, but I'd like to learn of more near by if there are any. Keep Austin Weird!

For outdoor, check out the Austin Rifle Club in Manor or the Eagle Peak Shooting Range in Leander.

Check out Lone Star in Lockhart. Eagle Peak does not allow ball ammo and you are limited to one shot per second.
