Sporting shooters condemn tighter gun control laws
The Sporting Shooters Association says there is no need for the Northern Territory Government to tighten gun controls.
The Government announced yesterday legislation to restrict ownership of handguns and the availability of certain types of weapons in line with a national agreement after the Monash University shootings in Melbourne.
But the association's Territory president, Col Mellon, says members are disappointed they have been targeted again.
"They are very disaffected," he said.
"They share a common view that they've been sold down the line again.
"They're easy targets, to quote a well lauded term, that they've tossed at me today.
"They're not happy people and I can appreciate their feelings because some are very dedicated people.
"If they weren't fit and proper people, they wouldn't have a firearms licence anyway."
