Does anybody make a clone of the Colt Bisley with the actual SAA type action?

I'm not interested in CAS or carrying the gun in a holster, so the ability to carry six in the cylinder is irrelevant. That rules out guns like the Ruger Vaquero.

I want a gun that works like a regular SAA, like the Cimarrons. I don't recall seeing a Bisley on their website.

Hi, Deanimator,

Just curious, but have you ever fired a real Bisley?

Jim

Anyone know of a source for a brass Bisley style grip frame that fits the Sinle Six Ruger?

As far as I've ever seen or heard of, there was but a single run of 12 or so brass bisley gripframes made whcih would fit the Ruger SA's. some were kept by the individual that produced them and just a few were sold after that. I got one. Haven't decided what it's going on for a gun but likely a Clements project again. It's still unfitted and unpolished but I already know it'll be a beauty. Love those Bisley's!

Not to stray too far off topic but I'm reminded of the ultra rare custom grips used by Steve McQueen in his role as Nevada Smith.
These were made by only one craftsman that I know of, Its been a long time but I think that fellow's first name was Al.

The grip has a set back for the little finger with the bottom front edge hooked a bit and extending about the width of a finger. Probably meant for the largest hands or for shooters who'd normally be wearing heavy gloves day to day.

Been thinking of trying to duplicate that grip for my Single Six project gun. I hope I still have the old magazine with the article and photos.

PS
Haven't fired a Bisley yet myself but an old timer brought his 38/40 out for me to examine years ago. He'd bought it in near new condition during the depression and it was still in near new condition in the 1980's. He said it was the only gun he owned or ever wanted to own, after feeling the balance I can understand why.
