Like the Rem 1187 Police and other "tactical" short-barreled autoloading shotguns. Since they're impractical for hunting, and I hope I won't use to blow a BG in half, my shooting (if I owned one) will be at the range. So, are they fun to shoot?

My use of semi-auto was to reduce felt recoil in competition in 12 bore.(O/U in the other 3 bores). At the time been known to run as much as 20k rds a yr, in the 12 bore alone. The shooting, the pressure, the competition the people I met...was the fun, regardless of platform, the shotty the means.

Heck yes. And short barreled shotguns SHINE at some kinds of hunting. Ask grouse and quail hunters, most slug shooters, and the guys who own 40 different turkey calls and obsess over getting more.

That 22" barreled 1100 Competition Master takes choke tubes, and t'is load and choke, not barrel length, that determines pattern.

While my favorites are not self shucking, there's plenty that can be done with short barrels.
