Still can't find one. Does anyone know a dealer with them in stock, willing to ship to a FFl at ~$549. I just saw a fresh listing at Gunbroker for $800 (obviously a gouger). These have been listed several times in the past for far under $600, but they sell out fast. I'm on a waiting list at one gun shop, but they don't know when to expect it. Seems to be a large backorder on these. Patience is not my virtue when it come to getting my hands on one. :D

Anyone one have one yet... comments, pics??

Thanks

I ordered one almost a month ago...
no sign of them. The gunshop I ordered it from monitors a few different suppliers...apparently, according to the local Sportsmen's Warehouse local Remmy chick, they're all on back order till heaven knows when.
I guess that means either they're really good, or Rem didn't think they'd do too hot and made a hunnerd of 'em and called it good.
Or maybe something else.
Dang it all, I really wanted to get my hands on that before Christmas.
I'm half tempted to email remington and ask for their next shipment date, or at least could they give me a hint?

I went to my local Gun shop today to put an order in on one of this bad boy. The owner respond was wait till next April or May. Maybe, just maybe i will get it by the summer next year. i was like ***? ( not to the owner) but to my self. urhhh...

I hate to say this guys....but I bought one when they came out and it-is-NICE! Quite the bargain at <$600 for the .308. I'd post pics, but something tells me that'd just aggravate the cause. :fire: I'll keep my eye out for one for you.

Please do.

I was hoping Thursday. :banghead:

I can't wait for this thing forever, and I don't want to go spending double for a RRA Varmit EOP just cause I'm itching.

Is the "tactical" the 26" heavy barrel model? If so, I know of a place that SAYS they have them in stock, as I'm considering one myself. If thats what your looking for, let me know, and when I get home from work, I can post a link to it (dont have the dealer/shop/link available here at work)

Thanks, but that's probably the LTR (comes in 20" & 26"). This one has a 20" barrel only and is less expensive.

Here's a link:

These are made to directly compete with FN's PBR. The only thing the PBR has more is chrome lining and controlled round feed, but it is also $400 more.

If you can live with a 26" barrel, get the SPS Varmint. It is the identical barrel and action as the 700P (police), only difference? Comes in a cheaper stock and has a less durable finish. Although, that same lesser-durable finish is what comes on the SPS Tactical line. You could buy a take-off 700P stock for no more than $200 (often $175 average) and save $250 off of buying the 700P itself. That extra cash buys you the best picatinny rail and rings out there. Or, goes to buying better glass.

If you want the Tactical because it is 20" ....these are in high demand and supply is low. Will just have to wait a while. Remington made a whole lot more of those in .223 than they did .308. Personally, if I am going to go .308, then that means I want to hit something past 400m ..if I'm going to do that, I don't want a 20" barrel either. Many say 20" is fine in .308 for out to 500. But for me, if it is short range, then I want a .223 and a 20" barrel. If it is longer, I'd want .308 with a 24" or 26" barrel. In my mind, they go together this way.

The other option is the LTR.

Like in this thread, people tend to interchange the terms PSS (or P) and LTR. The LTR's are 20" fluted barrels in a more slim HS Precision stock. The 700P's are 26" barrels, non-fluted, in more beefy HS Precision stock.

P = Police
LTR = Light tactical rifle.

Exactly, it's the same with their shotguns. There is no comparing the Tactical shotguns versus the 870P. Fit, finish and parts quality are all much better in the "P" line of guns.
If you can stretch it I'd recommend the LTR or 700P 26" barreled rifle. The attention to detail just seems to be a step above on Remington's "P", law enforcement, series.
My .02

You can always buy a 26", and any decent gunsmith can cut it off and recrown it for under $100. Probably be a better crown than the factory. Or you could switch brands.

Was at basspro and had a 700 sps stainless in 308. for $580. They didn't wanna approve me for credit so decided against it for now. There's another store that is supposed to have the largest selection of remington and savage in the area. (police supplier that sells to the public) but expect to pay a premium.
Most people around here don't know how good 308 in the hands of a shooter is. There are ALOT of them that have collected dust. Even at the local walmart there's 3 in the case. one guy told me "we can't sell 308's. They just sit there." Now you go to another local store... there's a savage accutriger model with mark 4 tactical scope, bipod and custom stock for $1800 used.

Is 20" barrel a liability for accuracy or velocity? Normally I see hunting rifles in the 24" barrel length.

hard to find

Remington does a short run production for the 700 SPS Tactical. They make however many they see fit at the beginning of the year, try to sell them all (which they have had no problem with) and based on the numbers from that year decide the production run for the next year. No more will be made until 2009. So if you come by one, get it. I found one at a local outdoors shop for the fair price off $599.99. I've got it reserved in the back with my name on it, and I'll be purchasing it next week. It's in .308 of course :cool:

Airpower: From my readings I've gathered that the 20" barrel does sacrifice a small amount of velocity, but many veteran shooters hold it to be the perfect design for the .308. It won't be any liability as far as hunting goes. This is a sub .5 MOA rifle.

Uh, the LTR is in the 700P line of Remington rifles. As pointed out the P designates "police" and the LTR Light Tactical Rifle.
So, the 700P LTR is what it is known as.
I don't wanna get too caught up in nomenclature.
:D

Keisler's in Clarksville IN has (well, had two weeks ago) the 700 SPS Tactical in both 223 and 308. Also had the SPS Varmint in both as well.

If they'd have been any kind of willing to give me a decent deal on a trade I'd be the owner of a Tactical 223 right now...
