Yeah, JFettig, you got a great deal on that one. The MSRP is somewhere near $680. The dealers I found online were out of stock in the .308, and I'm more comfortable buying locally. So when I found it at my favorite little outdoors shop here in town, I was thrilled. My uncle gave me his Leupold VARI-X III 2.5x8 today (he got a brand new Zeiss). The Leupold will be the scope for the Tactical, until I get in the position to upgrade the optics. But hey, it was free! :D

I just bought one of these on gunbroker...

But I am getting mixed info on what twist rate it has...is it 1 in 10 or 1 in 12?

Doesn't really matter to me...but I want to know before I start buying bullets.

i just bought a tactical .308 off a dealer on the east coast for $555 shipped, pm me if anyone is interested.

I just looked two minutes ago. Lew Horton Disb. out of Mass. has

REM85566 700 SPS LTD .308 20 HD in stock says they have over 50 of them, have your local dealer call them first thing tomorrow. Or have your local dealer directly to their site and order one right now. Their inventory is available to dealers in real time 24 hours / 7 days a week.

thats the non tactical with the sport profile barrel. believe me not may dealers have them right now, i searched hard.

I'm very fortunate to be an owner of a Remmy 700 SPS tactical in .308, with the 20" heavy barrel. This is one sweet rifle, it will do an inch at 100 yards all day long with good ammo, I'm sure the rifle is capable of more accuracy. I've got a Nikon Pro-Staff 3-9x scope on it. Here's the killer, picked it at my local gun shop for $500, with scope, out the door!:D It was probably a police trade in, this one is in immaculate condition.

Feb 2009

I just purchased one off Gunbroker for $595.00 new. The SPS seems to be easy to get now compared to the first post in 2007.

I just bought one in .308 at a gun show here in Oregon. So far it seems like a great rifle. I actually really like the new trigger. Very crisp 4lb break. For the price ($570), it was a great buy. I tried a few different scopes on it including a zeiss, leupold and burris. But the one I have mounted now is the bushnell 3200 elite tactical 10x. For around $200 it's a great combo. Even with Remington core lokt 150 grain ammo I was getting 1.5" groups at 100 yds. The farthest range I've shot with this was 430yds. Average 3 shot group was about 4". So for the price the rifle is definitely worth it.

I've got one, very nice rifle, its sweet.:D

I printed a 2" group today, at 200 yards, with off the shelf Remmy Core-Lokt 150 grain.:)
