I'm new to this forum and to shooting in general. I just have three quick questions about the AWB that sun-setted. I ordered 2 glock mags that are labeled as LE/GOVT only. This is legal to own correct? Second, will I be able to purchase an extended grip that will hold 2 extra rounds on my "post ban" 10 round mags? Last, if this AWB was to go back in effect how do you think they would label the mags so that people will know that they are "post ban" again? The first two questions are the main ones, I'm not really worried about the ban coming back.
Thanks.

LEO/GOV magazines are 100% legal.

You can do whatever you darn well please with your magazines. Heck you can make your own 200 round magazines if you like. There are no current restrictions as to what you can do.

If a new ban goes into effect, assuming that you cannot pass ex post facto laws then they would have to mark new magazines and firearms in a unique way to signify that they were made after said future date. The easiest and most likely way would be a simple date stamp.

Write your letters and for God sakes VOTE!!!! Don't let a ban happen again.

The answer to your first two questions is yes, they are perfectly legal now. That is unless you live in a state with its own AWB. On the other question, I imagine if a new one were passed they would have to use some different wording or date stamp them so that they were distinguishable from the old LEO/Gov only stuff.

1. It is legal to own all magazines now. Less than 10 rounds, more than 10 round, unmarked, LE/Mil marked, whatever. Some people are buying up LE/Mil marked mags as novelty items now that "civilians" can own them.

2. Yup, +2 grips are fine. Like I said above, there is no limit on magazine capacity. Well, I suppose a 1000 round Glock mag would be to heavy too be practical... :D

3. They would probably have to come up with a new designation like "AWB II" or "Restricted" or "Export only" or what have you. Banning all the current postban "LE/Mil" mags that would become preban under a new AWB would be way too complicated, as well as politically suicidal and very probably unconstitutional (no ex post facto laws). That's just my arm chair analysis and I am not a lawyer, so take it for what it's worth.

Thank you all for your replies. I just want to make sure that I am being fully legal. I am and do plan on continuing to vote. I really don't think that this ban will ever be renewed ever because this law has nothing to do with keeping guns off the streets, it just says that, that one extra bullet will kill someone that the 10th one won't. LOL. Thanks again for your replies.

This is a completely rational statement, and would be true if the AWB was really about crime. It was not. It was about the first step in banning all civilian ownership of guns. And it was a very effective step, because it established the principle in this country that rifles could be banned for silly reasons like bayonet lugs -- when the Supreme Court refused to stike this silliness down, the legal principle was established -- Congress could basically ban any weapon it wanted, for any reason.

The AWB will return again and again, in one form or another. We will have to fight it over and over, and hope that we can win the war, not just one battle.

The gun-controllers seek to ban civilian ownership of guns because it does not fit their political philosophy of the all-powerful state. In their world view, the people are not competent to have power -- power must be exercised by the elites (them, of course). Allowing citizens to own guns endangers their vision, and therefore citizen ownership of guns must be eliminated. It is as simple, (and scary) as that.
