Cook County IL. AWB

Someone posted in one of the H.R. 1022 AWB 2 threads that the Cook County IL. AWB banned ALL Shotguns that held 5 or more rounds, the poster went on to say that with the 2 in. "shorty rounds" that all Shotguns were Banned in Cook County IL., Auto & Pump. The way I understand it is that there is a specific exemption for all Pump & Lever Action Shotguns & Rifles. I would like to know if someone here can clarafie this for me, I'm sure someone like Jeff White or another member more in the fast lane in IL. can help me. Thanks in advance.

(4) A semiautomatic shotgun that has one or more of the following:



(A) Only a pistol grip without a stock attached;



(B) Any feature capable of functioning as a protruding grip that can be held by the non-trigger hand;



(C) A folding, telescoping or thumbhole stock;



(D) A fixed magazine capacity in excess of 5 rounds; or



(E) An ability to accept a detachable magazine;

If its a semi-auto shotgun it cant hold more than 5 rounds. Now whether that means the indicated shell/hull size on the shotgun, or ANY size shotgun shell/hull I simply dont know. Tell you the truth I dont think those idiots know themselves.

(d) “Large capacity magazine” means any ammunition feeding device with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds, but shall not be construed to include the following:



(1) A feeding device that has been permanently altered so that it cannot accommodate more than 10 rounds.



(2) A 22 caliber tube ammunition feeding device.



(3) A tubular magazine that is contained in a lever-action firearm.

Any lever action firearm, whether rifle, or shotty would be safe. Means all my John Wayne type lever actions are safe...for the moment anyway.

Your pump action would be safe if it doesn't hold more than ten rounds in the tube. But again whether that means the indicated shell/hull size on the shotgun, or ANY size shotgun shell/hull I simply dont know

My 18" HD 870 shotty doesn't hold more than 10 of those damned mini shells. I've checked to make sure. Not that those things are worth a crap anyway, dont cycle at all in my 870. Had to feed them in one at a time just to get rid of the box.

SHHHH--they were so drunk they don't even remember passing that. This is why they didn't bother to tell anyone about the new law.


The effect of the law was this--it forced any remaining gun dealers out of business. I would consider an affermative defense that no one told you about the law--no newspapers heralded the deadline with so much as a whisper.
