With all the fur flying over the AWB, what about states who happen to have more restrictive state laws? Can the god-awful California ban ever go away? What about California's magazine capacity laws? In other words, why should I get excited over a couple federal shotgun restrictions that I never planned to take advantage of, since that's all it amounts to for me and mine?

I've noticed others on this board hinting at the same thing, so I decided to be direct and ask it point blank.

Yep, what Pilgrim says is right. The California ban is still in effect and as we grey and die, our guns will have to leave this state.

From what I understand about the kaliban, theyre considered assault rifles if they have one or more of the features, and when the federal AWB sunsets you can add the pre-ban goodies to your registered post ban firearm legally. Its just something I've read from some of those behind enemy lines at AR15.com, dont know how true it is.

Still SOL on the magizines though, sorry...

How can you folks stand to live in California? I worked for a Los Angeles-based magazine publisher for many years, yet never once considered moving to the state, even though doing so would have been a great career move.

Lots of us were born here, have family, friends, jobs and mortagages here. Personally, I can't understand how people can stand to live in the South during the summer when it's 105 in the shade with the humidity. It's nice to be able to go outside in more or less the same clothing no matter what time of year it is.

I just don't see why commie laws should be part of the deal.

You could put a folding stock on your 10/22. I believe .22lr caliber rifles are exempted from the California AWB.

Inertia.

I was going to give up my job out here in California for a job working at a range in Arizona for $8 an hour which would be at 70% pay cut. Then I did the math and I'd be in debt after the second month, even though rent out there is 1/3 of what it is.

Still got car paymt, insurance, groceries, auto repair, health insurance and that was just breaking even.

Skunk,

Even if it had been more money, when you take a job that has to do with your hobby, no matter what, eventually you end up owing them money. :D

Immutable law of the universe

Why would people live in California?

It is home!

I moved from the PRK about 2 1/2 years ago. I was born there, I liked it there for the most part and I made at least $15,000 more per year than I do here. Where I lived, the real estate was comparable or less than it is here (at least near a city). I moved here because my wife is from here. Most of my relatives that lived in the PRK for many years are all dead. I miss it alot. It was and probably always will be home for me.

The rain and snow suck compared to the mild climate of California. When I wanted snow there, I had to go find it in the mountains. Here it just falls everywhere. At least I get to wear those Winter coats I never put on out there.

The politics stink there. They didn't always and maybe things will change. CA used to elect alot of conservatives once upon a time. The pendulum may swing again.

I like it here also. Certainly buying a gun is easier but it takes awhile to get used to a new place after you have been somewhere for 40+ years.

That's why people live there. Why do you live where you do? My guess is you do because you have a job there. Otherwise you would live in your fantasy place. You know, the one with the beach front house and the Ferrarri in the driveway.

And to the point of the post, the AWB will probably never go away in California. That's where it all started. So what. I can lay my hands on post ban guns I like as much or better.

In other words, why should I get excited over a couple federal shotgun restrictions that I never planned to take advantage of, since that's all it amounts to for me and mine?
Because others where indiferent to your situation , and now you sit where you are . The reality is CA. is being used for a starting point to ban guns across the country . You may have given up the fight at home , you may not have , but will you stand by and give up the fight for our country ?

How can you folks stand to live in California?

Because I was born here, have lived here my whole life, and starteda business here before I woke up to what has been done to my rights here.
If I could convince the wife, I would leave for greener pastures tomorrow. But the wife doesn't want to leave friends, church family, etc.
Working on a move in a year or two.
Meanwhile, I live in a county where the sheriff is vehemently anti-gun, so no chance of ccw for me.

:barf:
I hate Kali with all of my being.

Good point Kodiak. However, like was mentioned above, many people look down on us or give us a hard time for living here. Most often people encourage us to move out. I know not all THR members do this, but so many have given up on our state, what does it matter to us if the whole country falls apart? In fact, since our state is so screwed up, the only real hope we have is if the whole system falls apart and we can start over. We will probably never get back our 2nd Amendment rights in this state unless a couple of things happen. I think either the Feds are going to have to step in and say, "States rights aside, the 2nd Amendment shall not be infringed and all state laws doing so are unConstitutional." Or the more likely but more horrible possibility is that the terrorists get their dream of a life time and cook off a good sized nuke in down town Los Angeles and enough liberals die to put conservatives back in power.

Never fear, I am writing my Senators anyway and I have even contacted my Congressman on the issue. Still, I would be lying if I told you a deviant, sick part of me wants the rest of the high and mighty who look so pitifully on the PRK to deal with what we are dealing with. Yes a smug grin of satisfaction would cross my face. Maybe if people were a little more supportive of our plight out here, Californians would be more supportive of your plight in the free world.

As others have said,I was born here, family, friends are here,job/bussiness here.I often think of planning my escape from here*sigh*.
Maybe I'm the first to admit it,but being able to buy an AR-15 and 30 round mags just isn't enough to make me pack up and leave.....yet!
Granted the laws here are draconian, but lets be honest.I really don't think anyone in any other state would pack up and leave if their particular hobby/interest were suddenly deemed un-PC!
Yes I know, its all about rights.Yes,I write the letters.Yes,I take newcomers shooting.
ACTIVE gunowners in this state are definately a minority.
Leaving a problem behind doesn't really solve it,now does it?
It will only follow you.For the next little while,I'll help try to solve it.
After that.......

The best thing that can happen to the PRK is for the producers to leave (ala Atlas Shrugged). Let it be funded by the "gimme's" for a while. It will break under its own weight. Then a John Galt will appear and restore order.

The weather is over-rated. Who wants the same thing day in and day out. There is no culture to speak of (It was once the Golden State, now it is bronze and fading).

There are a whole bunch of good people in the PRK that are steam-rolled by the PC left. LA and SF run the whole state due to population disparities. Unfortunately, living in a rural area does not save you from stoopid laws. I considered moving to a rural county but still felt under a cloud of oppression. That is why I jumped over the border.

We are not abandoning the USA, just a malignant, infected part. In time, it may correct itself when the economy tanks for lack of business.

El Rojo--

Could not have said it better myself. I have made my phone calls and written my letters to my own gun-grabbers and the president. Stark, Feinstien and Boxer don't really fill me with a lot of hope for doing the right thing by y'all though. My "why should I care more than I do?" attitude would improve remarkably if I didn't have to keep reading things like "California needs to fall into the sea", FWIW.
