AWB sunset effects?

Considering the failure of the the gun industry liability bill, largely because of the attached gun show and "Assault Weapons" Ban (AWB) amendements, it looks at least a little bit more likely that the AWB will sunset this September. I've only gotten into shooting in the last few years and while I'm familiar with the details of the AWB I'm wondering about the exact effects of it's sunset. Let's say, hypothetically, that all goes well and the AWB does die a much deserved, unlamented death in September. What changes in the gun industry and the firearms available to us will we see and how quickly will we see them?

For example, I'd love to pick up some reasonably priced 13 rounders for my Glock 23. How quickly will newly produced standard capacity mags be available? Will they be cheaper than the current pre-ban mags?

Riflewise, what changes will we see?

Your thoughts are appreciated...

What I'm personally hoping for is that everyone rushes to buy the previously banned stuff and I get a post-ban AR for cheap. Here's hoping!

If all goes according to our diabolical plan . . .

Standard capacity mags are already available and sold to LEO only. They'll be available to us. Same with the rifles - they're there, they're just sold only to police.

What I'd really like is a semi-auto version of the UMP - that stocky .45 caliber sub gun by H&K, but I don't know if they make one.

I hope to pick up some cheap guns that were designed around the lowcap mags.

Be sure to save up lots of money, just incase Kerry should get elected. “Buy all you can before he renews the ban.†I am hoping if Bush is reelected he will do what most presidents do and move toward his base but I’m not holding my breath.

Prices of firearms and mags will dramatically increase in the short term because of high initial demand. They will then drop to currently market level prices.

As ELT said, bATFE will do everything to harass and intimidate. Ditto for any other agency tasked to monitor gun laws. It will take everyone a while to calm down. Congressional and anti-2 blissninnies are convinced we are about to go on a murder rampage. It won't happen.

At this point the only way AWB II will appear is if we get another Columbine. I need not mention some amazing historical coincidences.

Manufactures are making preban weapons right NOW. Why isnt that "BATF doing everthing to harass and intimidate" them? Go to the Bushmaster website and buy a preban upper NOW. It may be illegal but, NO ONE will jump up and stop you from doing it.

Prices for full-cap mags will decrease from current levels, probably very near to current 10rd prices. There are a lot of hi-cap guns out there without appropriate mags, so there may be something to the "pent-up demand" theory, but I don't put too much stock in it. I doubt it will push the price of an otherwise $30 magazine much beyond $40.

The prices of hi-cap guns will increase, in accordance with how rare their full-caps are now. So significantly for Walthers and H&K's, and not at all for AK's or AR's.

Prices for 10rd mags will plummet, a tiny blessing for the unfortunate residents of restricted states.

...prices will increase by roughly 25% because of pent up demand for magazines.

Prices will also soar for rifles.

Why? Pre-ban mags are for sale right now. There isn't a pent-up demand, since the mags are legal to buy now. Same with the rifles.

Or do you mean that LE/Military mag and rifle prices will rise 25%? That could happen, but they'll still be cheaper than current pre-ban mags.

I don't think it will affect the price of ARs in the least, just that you'll be able to put the evil bayonets and flash supressors on them.

If you're worried about the demand for "AW" rifles, go buy a post-ban now. Then buy a collapsible stock and a FS. DON'T install these latter two items, just hold onto them. Come September, send your barrel off to any number of qualified gunsmithing shops and have them thread it and install your FS. While your upper is off to the gunsmith, replace your stock with the collapsible one. Now you have your evil rifle w/o having to wait in line.

The sunsetting of the ban will result in a bloodbath from coast to coast as rabid gun nuts celebrate by shooting and bayonetting defenseless orphans and puppy dogs. Assault weapons will be airdropped from NRA cargo planes into the streets. Kitchen table gun dealers will hand them out for free at playgrounds and crack houses . . . oh the humanity!
