I was going over the Florida Div of Licensing laws/statues & it listed CA as a "reciprocal" agreement state for licensed Private Investigators(C/CC).
I'm interested in learning if C licensed PIs can work/travel in CA armed like they are in Florida(with a valid G/firearm license).
I understand & Im aware of CA's strict gun-use of force laws but would they apply to armed Florida PIs who are working on cases/assisting paying clients or contracts.
I wouldn't want to be arrested or hassled by any local cops if I went to CA & did EP(protection work) or needed to go to a California location for a client.

Thanks;
Rusty

CA does not honor other States carry permits.

There are no CA laws that allows for it.
So, in order for CA to start honoring or have reciprocity with other States, the CA legislature must pass laws that allow for it.

CA laws does allow the issuance of a "non-resident" carry permit for employment/business "good cause".

Which means, if you are employed doing security/protection work and your employer intends to travels to CA, you can apply for a "non-resident" carry permit.

However, the "non-resident" carry permit is only valid in the County it is issued in and only valid for 90 days.

Florida licensed Private Investigators do not do security/protection details.

Florida licensed Private Security Guards do security/protection details.

"Axel Foley" was a LEO and under the LEOSA, LEOs can legally conceal carry while in CA.

C investigators....

In Florida, C/private investigators are routinely hired to conduct EP(executive protection) details because they can carry guns concealed & go in more areas than regular G/firearm license holders(armed security).
New bills in the Florida Assembly may change the FS493 standards allowing G/security to work in more EP/bodyguard type posts the same way C/PIs used to be hired for.
As for working in CA, it seems complex but not impossible.

In many cases, celebs/sports stars/VIPs just hire retired LE officers or ex-tier one special operations personnel(SF, SEALs, ParaRescue, CIA, DSS, etc).

Axel Foley was also a fictional character. The movies he was a character in were also fiction, not documentaries.

A lot of things can be done in fiction that can not be done in real life.

Good luck with that. And if you really intend to seriously explore the possibility of doing that, you need to contact the appropriate California regulatory agencies and perhaps a California lawyer knowledgeable in the subject.

Also be advised that in California neither a security guard license nor a PI license authorizes one to carry a firearm. A security guard needs a second license to be able to carry loaded gun openly, in uniform, while on the job. A PI needs a regular concealed weapons license to be able to carry a concealed gun.

But I think this thread has run its course.

Beverly Hills Cop is not only fiction, but was released 20 years before LEOSA was enacted.
