Great news in the email I just received from the president of the WV Citizens Defense League:

I spoke today with West Virginia Deputy Attorney General Tom Smith concerning the implementation of HB 3074, our new concealed handgun license reciprocity law that took effect today. He expects to sign reciprocity agreements tomorrow, Friday, June 8, 2007, with Florida, North Carolina, and Ohio. Agreements with more states are in the works.

I will send another announcement once these agreements are signed and become official. Until these agreements become final, West Virginia licenses will NOT be valid in any of these states and licenses issued by these states will NOT be valid in West Virginia.

Great news, one more added to my Florida CCW! Now if only south Carolina would get on board.

Language of the bill only covers individuals who are residents of the state issuing a reciprocal license (i.e., Florida licenses are honored if the individual with the license is a resident of Florida). Non-res permits are not honored, if I read it right.

Update!!!

Here's the latest. Thank you Jim Mullins!

Today, West Virginia Attorney General Darrell McGraw announced that he has signed concealed handgun license reciprocity agreements with the states of Florida, North Carolina, Ohio, and South Dakota. These agreements will allow residents of those states who have concealed handgun licenses to carry in West Virginia and West Virginia licensees to carry in those states. These are in addition to our existing reciprocity agreements with Kentucky and Virginia.

For more information, see http://www.wvago.gov/press.cfm?ID=350&fx=more

WVCDL will be working with Attorney General McGraw to expand coverage of reciprocity agreements to other states and with the Legislature to pass a universal recognition law in 2008.
